Would throwing together a 20GB Hard Drive, Socket 478 Intel Motherboard, Intel Celeron 478 Socket 1.7GHz, Socket 478 Cooling Fan, DDR333 256MB Ram, an ATi Radeon 9200SE 128MB, cd drive and floppy drive have any dire consequences? I'm buying these components separtely, and using a 350w PSU. Is ther anything i need to do/know before i stick everything together and power up?

Nothing disasterous would happen, but budget AMD chips are quite a bit better than budget intels. The celeron range are pretty dire, and should be avoided if possible. Investigate a semperon chip from AMD. They are cheap, and outperform the celeron D processors. A 1.5ghz semperon costs just under EUR50. Also, i'd recommend 512mb ram total, if thats possible.

The PSU should be grand, so long as its a decent make of PSU, not qtech! I have a higher spec system running off a 350watt, and theres not a bother. I'd say you could get away with a 200watt with no problems, but that'd be pushing it a bit.

i have the exact same celeron processor as you,its not terrible but certainly isnt enough if you want to play the newer games, take mutant s advice and move over so a sempron

All i can say is i've heard that the Semperons are better than the XP range, and the 2200 XP processor is better than a 2.6ghz celeron.
