So I finished up for xmas yesterday logged onto VC at 9 this morning and so far I've won a $2,000 guaranteed MTT, pocketing $800 for my troubles and I'm up over $100 on cash games...remind me why I drag myself to work every morning??

Because you think poker is based on luck?

Lol, I know that feeling Iago. Luck you - finishing already. I'm still in work, itching to log on. A couple of weeks back while sick from work I finished 3rd in the 7.5K guaranteed, getting €1000 or so. I thought the same thing. Nothing quite like it since tho...

If every month had days like that you'd be alright but not only will you not have a day like that every month but you also have to subtract from your 2000 the costs of tournies during the month too. So how much do you make a month at the moment??... more then that I suspect!

I think we've all sat and thought "why the fook am I dragging my ass in again?" when up a few hundred in the cash games... The fact is that we can all argue about AA, WSOP, Flush draws, pushing edges and what not but in the end of the day, going to work is definitely +EV :)

After a year of winning more from Poker than my job (and its not even close ;) ) Im taking a year out to travel, play poker and discuss hands with De Vore on a full time basis. I have no illusions of becoming a "pro", the current poker boom will die down, games will get smaller and players will get better; I also dont think I am that interested in poker for it be my primary occupation for very long.

I too am taking a year out next year but also not to play poker (and certainly not to argue hands with HJ! lol...).
I'm going to work on my writing and do some freelancing amongst other things. Part of that will revolve around poker and unlike HJ I think the "boom" is just growth and while it wont continue to grow at the rate it has, I think its here to stay and will always have fish and sharks galore...

God, me and HJ not agreeing! What IS the world coming to!

    Your writing?

yeah, I write occasionally and have had a fair bit of stuff published but most likely I'll be writing about poker and technology if possible. I'm sick of sorting out stupid peoples stupid bugs for a living and I'm going to do something else for a while.
Not to mention Boards needs more of my loving care and attention now that its growing into a full blown monster! :)

Actually, and this will make you laugh, I think far too much of the writing on Poker either falls into the category of: "And then he caught an A on the river" or "so clearly you are 42% to win and those a 3% edge to go all in on. QED".

There isnt enough entertaining writing about an activity which has far more then its fair share of characters and events to report on!

I agree. I'm thinking of following Hussein around, now that's a book with sequels in itself!

Iago also finished 5th in the 4k on VC tonight, well done!

I saw that too. G'waaan Iago!

Thanks Guys, it was a long grind to get there. Probably could have finished higher but at that point I only had 50K in chips, all the others had 100K +

I was on the button, two others folded leaving me with the blinds and I had AJo, knew I needed to double through so went all-in only to run up against KK in the big blind, they held up and I went out. Cest la vie..

At one point I was down to 1,100 just before the break at the end of level 4 so I guess I'm happy enough with that finish..

..some interesting play in that tournament, on the first table I was on there were 2 players who bought in 15 times between them!! and were still out before the break...crazy cards, all-in on K8o called by A3o when we were 9 handed etc...

    nice one!!
you've had a tonne of results this year on VC!?

whats the buy in for the 4K like? wonder if they have one on xmas day.....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,838 ✭✭✭DapperGent

It's only $18 + reg, it's a great tournament. The early rounds are probably the hardest if you're not willing to rebuy loads but I've found if you play tight you'll find someone to double you through easy enough. Once it gets past top up stage it's a really good tournament before that people are just trying to build build build and you can get yourself knocked out easily enough if you got a lot of loose players at your table.

All in all probably my favourite VC tournament.

It's an $18 buy in with unlimited rebuys to the end of level 4 and a top-up at the end of Level 4. Definitely worth a shot.

There were 170 entrants or so last night...first paid over $2K and the total prize pool was almost $7k

poxy fecking site! finished 6th in the guaranteed $1250 game when the following happened..

6 Players left, average stack is around 75K, I have just over 50K and I'm dealt Ac As, lovely..I raise to 20K and the guy next to me goes all-in for 60K, call in a flash and he has Kc Ks..

excellent, have his flush draws wrapped up as well. Any card of 45 will do dealer..

Kh hits on the river and I'm out. Instead of being chip leader and playing for $750, I get $155 and a round of uls...

Oh this game, how it mocks us so...

Taking a break to eat and fix my keyboard after smashing it following that hand..

You're all my fan boys, most of you keep it to PM's though :D

You see back then this forum was almost a family thing, a few players down on their luck against the world. As opposed to the bitter cesspool it's become since we let the blowins run the place ;)
