Anyone know where I'd find a downloadable manual for a VW Caravelle?

Nah, it's a dash light. I'm pretty sure it's the glowplugs light, sister reckons it's staying on, what does that mean? Glowplugs on the way out?

Under normal operation, you're supposed to turn the key to the on position, wat for the glowplug light to go out, then start the engine. If it's not going out it means there's a fault with the glow plugs or wiring. The light should look like a little coil and will be orange.

even if plugs are gone this light should go off

it could be actually glowplugs relay , VW used cheap relays in golfs

you should look for somebody with code reader

If the light's staying on, there's a problem. Under normal operation it goes out after a few seconds. If you want to do some further investigation this is a good rough guide
