Quick question, which card is better, I have a Geforce4 MX 440 Agp 8x 128 mb card . I also have a Geforce 5200 Agp 4x 128mb . Wondering which one to give away to a friend, of course I'll be keepin both. Both have TV out and digital connection aswell as the vga .

    Thanks

They are both poor enough. The 5200 is better though.

thanks quigs, is there much of a difference? The thing is I have the Geforce Mx440 in my pc at the mo, got my hands on a Geforce 5200, will be giving my friend the poorest one! One thing I noticed was that the Mx440 wasnt compatiable with the Prince of Persia game i got. Might try and see will it work with the 5200

    appreciate your help.
    Thanks

Likely because the MX440 hasn't got the nessecary shaders. Prince of Persia probably needs pixel shading - something the MX series lacks.

the MX is a value version of the Geforce 4 which is the 4th generation and the 5200 is the Geforce FX series which is 5th generation instead! I dont remember the differences on what they support and features but you find the full spec on nVidia homepage on all the series!

I had a 440mx then bought a 5200fx as an upgrade... I wasn't impressed at all... I returned it and got my money back :/
From what I ran on them, I'd rate them both around the same performance mark.
I recall the fx5200 giving worse fps in some games, but most likely because it was using bumpmapping/shaders/whatever that the 440 didn't support.
Run a few benchmarks like 3dmark and see which card your system agrees with most.

Thanks for your help lads, am going to test running a couple of games with both cards and see what the differences are if any.

oh and im also going to run the 3Dmark application.

the biggest difference, and the reason why prince of persia didn't work is that the MX440 only supported up to Directx 7, the 5200 does 8.1 max.

Just ran the 3DMark benchmark utility on both cards. My Mx400 got 3393 but the FX5200 got 3894, the Fx was able to run a couple of extra tests that the mx440 couldn't so I guess I'm going to keep the FX5200 and let the Mx440 go to my mate. Thanks for your help lads and thanks for that application 3Dmark, good app to have.

The 5200 does dx 9 c. It's the only card in it's price range which does.
Definitely better than the 440 IMO. Still not a great card though, but it'll run anything you throw at it albeit not very fast or pretily...

you might hate the fx5200 but I love it now, it runs thief3 too which wouldn't run on the mx440 , Top!
Im sure its probably not near near the high end stuff you can get out there but its running all my games and thats all that matters. Cheers
