Have read the do's and don'ts and now I'm really confused.
On the basis that my question is simple, not related to worms and viruses, but does involve an aspect of security which must come most people's way at some stage, I ask,
Would anybody here send their credit card number and expiry date by e-mail?
Situation, account on card with company in American.. above board! WorldSpace.
    Signed originally on secure site.
Now card expiring, new one with different number, and they want me to send it on over with the expiry date. just like that!!
    In my book a no-no.
Any words of wisdom or options?
I rather like the one that involves a password protected Word document sent to a preassigned person.

christ no, unless you are using and understand encrypted mail, and even then I would be extremely cautious. You claim this company are above-board, but if it was me I would cease all business relations with a company if they asked me to do this......they are either idiots, ignorant or criminals......either way, not somebody you want to do business with

M.e. your one word reply tallied exactly with the opinion of a vice pres of that org. he's gone off to figure out how I get to pay him without breaking some basic rules of e-mailing.
Fragile's opinion coincided with mine as well.
What really blew my mind was the attitude of the credit card (MBNA) rep.when i rang for advice.
Couldn't understand what my problem was.
"Aren't you covered against fraud"? Yay, right.
"how will they have your new number and expiry date if you don't send them" again Yay, right.
I reckon its for them (the company to which I want to make payments) to provide a safe environment to which to make credit card details available , not for me to risk having my details seen by half the world.
Thanks again for your comments. Glad to know that if I am paranoid , I've company. Notice that there were quite a few viewings, which would suggest that it is not an uncommon dilemna.

It's really not a good idea, even if the mail is encrypted during transit, chances are it's going to sit in an unprotected mail archive for a long time (disgruntled employees and such...)

Paypal or an EFT might be a better choice :)
