hey UCH hope im not stating the obvious , but could it be the media?
if you are using good media verbatim or taiyo yuden you should not have a prob but some cheaper media can drive you nuts you can also try stopping every programme that you are not using such as anti virus etc , and once you start a burn , move away from the puter , if you are still having probs try the BenQ Phillips forum on cdfreaks http://club.cdfreaks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=61

is this when you're ripping it or burning it?

make sure you don't do it "on the fly" either, as this often causes problems... but yeah - my first bet would be the media, followed by too much other crap being done at the same time.

It's when I'm burning the DVD

Right, i thought you meant during the ripping process... anywho, here's what i suggest.

    1) Tell us what brand of DVD+R it is. DVD+R's are generally much better quality than DVD-R's, as less manufacturers make them, and therefore there is better quality control.

    2) Get dvdinfopro and tell us what the mediacode of the DVD is. It should be something like MCC 003, or Ritek D01 or Prodisc RO2 (to give a few examples).

    3) See if there is a new firmware for your DVD burner available, and if there is, flash it in.

Try using a DVD-RW so you don't waste a disc til you get this sorted. Also, if possible, do a simulation and not a full burn to see if the simulation works.

Right, the Plot thickens, I tried to burn using a DVD-R and it failed, got a different brand of +R's and that failed also, then I got me a DVD+RW and it worked no problem, any ideas why it wont butn R's and it will burn RW's ??

yeah, possibly new firmware will help, or at least letting us know what media code the discs are! If they are princo, that would explain a lot. Princo = pure ****e.

Try ths points in my previous post and report back any findings.

OK, I can definitely rule out media and the drive, as the drive works a treat on my Compaq in work, so it looks like it's my hardware at home is the problem. It's an AMD based pc, ATI graphics, sis chipset, any ideas anyone ??

What Wattage is your power supply?, it may not be able to supply the drive with enough power to burn discs.
