Barcelona for New Years

Hello all,

I'm thinking of going to Barcelona for the new years celebrations - assuming i can get a flight at the last minute.

Has anyone been overthere this time of year, and would you recommend it? I wouldn't mind doing a bit of sightseeing, but don't want to be fighting my way through the crowds either!

I did this exact thing last year - had an absolute blast!

The night was great as the main street (Las Ramblas?) sorry I foget the name was like a brazilian carnival. Spent most of the night making our way down it - stopped off for a meal which was great (nb: most spanish go home for the countdown so the restaurant was ours by that time) and then down to the quay where the main statue was overrun with people. Then onto the boardwalk where the pubs were jammers and loads of fun. People were ultra-friendly and no fights to be seen anywhere.

Sightseeing - somehow we got up early after and went on a topless bus which was very useful but seriously cold.

There's 6 of us going over on the 28th - 2nd.... can't wait.
Bri - any good tips on pubs/restaurants to eat/drink in??? Or better where to advoid???
