I just found this bench of the AGP 6600GT, it shows it beating an X800XT PCI-E on 16xAF 0xAA 1024x768, is this possible, or is it just a typo (meant to be 6800GT)? http://www.digit-life.com/articles2/gffx/nv43-2_10.html

Ya there seems to be something wrong alright, 6600GT is on a par with the 9800xt which in turn is a good bit behind the x800xt.
Half Life 2 is supposed to run better on the ATI's aswell.
