According to mediabullet E4 are going FTA next autumn

Channel 4 plans to turn E4 into free channel
Channel 4's hugely popular digital channel E4 could be turning free-to-air sooner than you think. According to inside reports, the broadcaster has plans to switch the youth entertainment service into a free channel as early as autumn next year. The channel is currently only available through Sky's monthly subscription packages and Channel 4 are confident that the service could survive on advert revenue alone. Channel 4 are currently under Sky's conditional access contract until 2008 and so a change of decision on this purely lies with Sky. Recently BBC's channels all switched to a free-to-air signal and since then we have seen ITV's two stations ITV2 and ITV3 broadcasting in the clear without the need of a viewing card.

Mind you i Think they have it wrong regarding ITV2. I wonder who next will go FTA

I will wait until it happens because channel 4 is tied into an ecryption agreement until 2008 so it would be hard to see it happening unless channel 4 went fta too. how relialble is mediabullet with their information does anyone know?

I'm only passing on what mediabullet clearly have up on there web site. And 99% if not 100% of stories they report very much come true.
Also wotsat are reporting the same. Lets hope it happens next year.

I was thinking that perhaps E4 would only be FTA on Freeview (it's only on TopUpTV at the moment). E4 would need to sort out programme rights to be FTA on satellite as some of their rights are on the basis that they are a subscription channel.

that too is what i was thinking. FTA on DTT doesnt necessarily mean FTA on satellite

take a look at ITV2, Sky Sports News, Sky Travel etc. etc.
