    Howay all,

I have suse 9, and broadband. I set up my connection no bother and it was fine for months. However the other day I was using the yast software update tool to configure some new software, and whatever happened I can't get online anymore. So my question is how do I resolve conflicts in suse and what packages should definitely be there for me to be able to get online?

ps its not the firewall as I tried disabling it and still no joy. :D

any help would be much appreciated, as i am a bit of noobie to suse.

    man......

you didnt even say what type of connection you have, what modem?
what software you are running, adslstart? versions etc.,
not to mention logs, how can you expect anyone to know the answer.

    man....

My humble apologies nadir. I am an iol bb subscriber and have there standard Zytel Prestige 623R-T1 router. I connect using pci ethernet 10/100 not usb. When I set up my connection initially in suse it was automatic, I didn't need to log in or manually run any programs. If you know the standard packages nessecary for adsl, ethernet connections in suse could you let me know. As I said I am relatively new to suse so your comment about logs is not very useful I'm afraid. ;)

cool, yea. well usually they use adslstart
    type in adsl<tab><tab>
    that should give possible commands.
then press enter and have a look at the output.
the logs will be stored in /var/log/message
    or such
so you could tail /var/log/messages and have a look at the output.

you might want to make sure the ethernet card is working ok as well
    as root
    ifconfig
    it should list eth0
and there should be a local ip present like 192.168.0.1
hope that helps, give us some output and we might be able to trouble shoot :)
