I am a college student, and i am repeating first year.I am also a jockey.Last year i went to college as a backup if i ever got injured from race riding.I was a student during the week and a jockey at the weekend. But every now and again i would have race's during the week and it would interupt my studies. The year passed by and i unfortunetly got injured(cruciate knee ligament). The doctor told me not to ride horse's for 6 month's for the injury to heal.Anyhow,i ended up failing my first year in college, mainly because my racing career came first. So 5 and a half months on and my knee is a whole lot better and if i get the all clear from my doctor in a few weeks i will go back riding again. But now i am thinking of leaving college for good and go at being a jockey full time but i dont know what to do.Should i stay in college or go pursue my dream career?College at the moment is not the best and i dont really get on well with my new first year class mate's,but there's other things that are holding me back from leaving.Todays the last day of college until after the christmas holidays and i want your advice on what to do.If i leave college and if i get injured i will have no backup but if i dont pursue my career i will never know if i have what it takes to be the best.Should i stay or should i go?

If jockying is what you want to do, and college is making you unhappy, then the choice is pretty clear. Do what you feel is best for you, and if it doesn't work out you can always try going back to college later...

In all fairness mate, it's "your" life. Nobody can tell you want to do with it. At the end of the day whatever decision you make you have to deal/live with it.

You have to ask yourself, would the opinions of random strangers really have influence on you?

Why assume you have to do College now?
No problems finishing college later in life if the need arises, just whether you have the application to complete it at the time.

Go with the giddy ups as whatever course you doing will still be there , some people may say do both but its not easy i trying to finish a degree atm and having serious issues with work (need a security guard job :D )

But hey your young may as well go for the ggs as later in life you can do college, even take a year out to hedge your bets so to speak , go full time horsies and see how it pans out if after a year somfin not working least you had the experience and know better..

are you any good, have you any tips?

seriously though if you are any good as a jockey go for it by all means, you know your abilities much better than we do, however lookat the amount of young irish footballers who go to the UK to follow their dream and come home with no education and no career.

Do what you are best it IMO.

Stop refering to women as horses.

Sometimes only with time can you figure out what you want to do.

I went to college for 2 uears and failed them both. took a year out and worked. Went back to a course i knew i'd enjoy and came out with a good result 5 years later (1 year out for work experience as part of the degree).

If the oppertunity to make a go of being a jockey is there I would go fo it.
If it all falls through you can always go back to college, it'll be expensive and a little trickier and you mightn't get a course you want but it'll still be there!

Follow your heart. I've been through the whole college system, dropped out went out working and then went back to college again, and am now studying first year business at 23 years old, there are older in my class.

What I am trying to say is go with what you want to do, what makes you happy, if jockeying is what you want go for it, you can always go back to college as a mature student later on in lfe.

Sounds to me though that your whole life is already mapped out for ya.

Best of luck on whatever option you take!

Well ya have a leaving cert which is more than most jockeys have, but if your 18/19 your gonna want to make a decision on the jockeying, as money wont be made jus doing weekends. Jockeying needs dedication. Do ya have a licence? Is there a trainer willing to give ya rides? ya dont wanna end up mucking out or riding out every morning for the rest of your life either
