    Hi,
I'm having a major problem with my PC. Basically, when I turn it on, I log onto Windows and sometimes even before all processes have started it restarts the PC. Now I did a bit of research on google and some people reckon it might be the Blaster Worm, I have a fix for this but the PC wont stay on long enough for me to run the check!!

Seriously outta ideas, has anyone got some pearls of wisdom out there???
    Thanks
    TH

    Thanks Winters,

I have the Blaster Fix from MS, but the PC wont stay on long enough to run it, I've gotten it to start the scan, but it always cuts off before the end.

Another thing I've noticed is that sometimes -instead of restarting, the monitor goes blank, the hard drive still appears to be running, and all the drive lights (i.e. 2 CD drives, Floppy Drive) stay on.

Any idea what might be causing this?

I had similar probs a few weeks ago. It turned out to be a dodgy PSU. I got it replaced and all is fine now.

    I've had this in work.
    Power Supply Unit every time.

The blaster virus won't affect your system if you aren't connected to the phone or network, so yank out your RJ11 and RJ45 - then you should be able to use a blaster fix (if it is that)

Could also be a boot virus. Use your rescue disks or get a friend to make a copy (from almost any antivirus)

Start in safe mode and run your recovery. Then patch your system and update your anti-virus before you get infected again.

Other good tools are Spybot and ad-aware which are both free and can help you to keep a clean system.

The average time to live for an unprotected system on the internet is now less than 10 minutes. Don't risk it, patch as soon as possible.

Also be aware that if you did get Blaster, there's a chance that you might also have other unwelcome visitors on your PC. I hope you don't keep personal information on it!

Sorry to sound harsh, but it's an unfortunate reality that we face. If you need further help in removing it give me a shout.

    Cheers

In case anyone is interested or has the same problem,

I've solved the problem of the constant restarting, I was at a friends house tonight and they asked me it install Norton AV onto their PC. Now coincidentally their PC is same as mine, as I was installing it the computer restarted exactly as mine was doing it.

So when I came home I decided to uninstall my Norton AV to see if it fixed it and lo and behold it has!!!

Phew, and thanks for all the suggestions.
