  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 624 ✭✭✭lazygit

Well, I'm very happy with it, and thanks for the crack.

Just one thing, I saw from one of the links here that it costs just Eur69 in Lidl in France. I reckon it's still good value at Eur79 but is this is just another example of rip-off Ireland?

BTW it's £49 in Northern Ireland, which is about Eur72.

Low framerate on playing divx media. anyone else have this trouble?

The different VAT rates would add maybe a Euro or two.

    What are the sympthoms?
Are there interruptions in the playback?
Or the frames are being dropped?

I guess it depends a lot on what media you have (is it CD-R/CD-RW/DVD-R/DVD+R, ...) and precisely what versions of DivXes these are.

Haven't got the player yet, but I'd like to know if there are problems with playback of DivXes that you've reported.

is it the same one as superquinn are doing? i thought their's came with 5.1 speakers too though. would be tempted to go for the SQ one if that's the case though, assuming they are about the same spec. has anyone seen both?

In lidl again on the 16th for 59.99.

Well i still use this player almost everynight for the last 5 months,

I have noticed some frame rate problems when playing some MPEG4,DivX and XVid files this is caused by the file containing a packed bitstream.

Before burning the file to cd/memory card I recommend that you unpack the bitstream using this tool. http://www.moitah.net/ this will cause the frame rate problems to disappear! it only takes about 30 seconds to unpack the stream.

Dont forget to resave the file to a different file name using the save button... lol.

I have also been using this since Xmas cant complain for the price, its region free with the hack above. What do you mean by frame rate problems lazygit? Do you mean the picture starts to jump or that its out of sync with the audio or something else?

Good advice. I have a different player (elta 8883), but I have to use the MPEG4Modifier tool off that site with many files before they play properly on my player.

If a certain file isn't playing, try opening it in GSpot 2.52. Here you can see what version of DivX or XviD was used. You can also see if it's encoded with the fancy features (QpeL, B-frames, GMC) that cause trouble for some players to play back.

Yea it jumps, the audio stays in sync as the player seemes to drop frames to keep up with the audio. if you unpack the stream this problem goes away.

I noticed that happened with some xvids thought it was a bad file file, thanks for the link.

I burn AVI's onto DVD+R's to play on this DVD player. The trouble is if I add more file to the same disk at a different session they never appear on the DVD menu - even after I finalize the disk.

I have no problem doing this with DVD+RW's.

I use Sonic RecordNow! to write the DVD+R's.

    Any idea what's going wrong?

True, but you'd buy a lot of blank DVD's for the price of a 1GB microdrive. Also, some AVI's are more that 1GB. :)

    hows it going lads.

about this packed bitstream problem i had that trouble with the last time lidle did this player and i hated it. ended up returning the player. id love to get the player only ive already a lot of stuff burned off to dvd (divx and xvid). i dont want to have to re-encode all my stuff again. is there any firmware update that'll do this for me? it would break my heart to have to re-encode over 50 dvd's worth of stuff. if i cant i may just invest in a modded xbox.

To be honest I think using an old PC with a DVD and TV tuner card & remote is better route than have all these problems with file encodings.

You won't need to re-encode Divx, the packed bitsream problem is only for Divx and not all Xvid files either, just some.

The only palyer with a firmware capable of playing packed bitstream files is the Targa DP-5100x, see here:

last time lidl blanchardstown had them in stock for 2/3 weeks after the sale date
& and that was @ €79 , I feed the 5.1 output through a 6 channel amp the result is top notch, also use sd & cf cards in the memory slot with no problems.

so everybody who bought one - whats the verdict? good purchase?

im happy. i still get a lot of trouble due to this packed bitstream problem as mentioned by lazygit at the start of this thread. the playback can be stuttery and jerky but the software at www.moitah.net eliminates this which is brilliant. but i would recommend anyone to use it BEFORE they burn their files off to a DVD. Only takes about a minute to do for a normal 700mb divx movie file.
