Did you see the article in The Irish Times yesterday (1 paragraph) about Vodafones expecting that their customers will experience network blocking on the access side in highly populated areas throughout December (didn't appear to be just limited to New Years etc).

Don't like the sound of this at all. They might be just saying this to cover themselves though! Maybe it will just be the cities that are affected and not the towns or the countryside?? I hope so anyway!

I'm getting it all the time. I work on Harcourt St, and I'm constantly experiencing congestion this month, particularly around lunchtime and rush hour.

Have you a link or the text Tosher? Is it being caused by upgrading, or pure congestion?

I wouldn't read too much into it. There was some problems recently that were highlighted by the media. They seem to have taken the oppurtunity to just warn people in advance that it could happen over New Years again.

I haven't had any problems but am not near the city centre at all.. Mind you, up until 7months ago I lived beside Harcourt street for 8 months and didn't experience the problems you mention seamus. They could be doing some work in the area maybe?

Well, that's the thing. Twas impeccable up till about a week ago, now myself and pretty much everyone else I know on Vodafone can't ring out for parts of the day. SMS is fine.

That would suggest they are doing some work or something has gone down. Did you try reporting it? In that part of town they would be pretty prompt about fixing it due to the numbers in that area.

well then you would want to get that checked out further. I am sure that the other half million vodafone customers in the area would have noticed something too.

Sorry, don't have a link to it unfortunately, if you have a login for ireland.com you should be able to see it in Wednesday's paper.

I can accept that the network will be busy over New Years as it wouldn't make sense to Engineer capacity for one night of the year. The reason the article stood out was it seemed to be quoting a press release from Vodafone and was referring to the whole month of December. I find that unacceptable as a customer. O2 for me.

looks like they have resolved it:

The Irish Times reports that Vodafone says it has resolved congestion problems that were experienced on its network in Dublin earlier this week. The mobile operator said it had to add 25 percent extra capacity to its network on Wednesday to cope with soaring demand this week. The company also said it would track usage closely in coming days in case more capacity is needed.

Possibly caused by Christmas shoppers flooding into Dublin maybe?
