These lads (and ladies) should start running regular tournaments in Galway, Dublin and Cork in Janurary '05. My friend who training to be a dealer for them tells me that they will be doing up to 1000 euro freezeout tournaments so it will be attracting some big players.

You do have to sign up for membership though and its 12 euro per year.

Just thought I would let you lot know.....

That's an interesting site. does anyone have anymore info on who's behind it and what they plan in particular?
BTW, my apologies to anyone I've busted out recently. Please don't take my brilliance personally. It's a burden sometimes. Sometimes I truly wish I was mediocre. Mediocre and sober.
    Cheers,

---I got a job through my friend training to deal for www.pokerevents.ie so this is a blatant plug

All games are Texas Hold 'em No Limit and there will be trained dealers there on the night.

    Events start in Galway:

Wednesday 5th Jan 05 and run every wednesday night 8:30pm onwards in the Westwood Hotel, Galway.

Sattelite €50 buy in tournament with €50 buy backs (dunno how long the buy back period is) and one €50 up.

1st Place cash prize and seat at Main event torunament (€1,000 freeze out game)

2nd-4th Place cash prize and seat in Monthly tournament (€250 freeze out tournament)

Monthly events will be on a Friday night in the Radisson SAS Hotel (in the nightclub) Galway every month (which Friday TBC) from 8:30pm onwards from Jan 05.

    €250 freeze out tournament.

Major cash prizes (should be over €10,000 prize pool) for top three places and seats in Main event tournaments (€1,000 freeze out tournament)

    The Main events:

There will be 6 Main events throughout the year. Although this is to be confirmed, the first two will be in Galway, and then the rest will be in Dublin and Cork venues to be announced (looks like City West Hotel in Dublin). Radisson SAS for Galway.

€1,000 freeze out tournament with guaranteed €100,000+ prize for winner and major cash prizes for runner ups.

Dublin and Cork dates TBC for all of the above. The first leg of the tournament will be running initially in Galway as the company is based there.

Check the website out for more details and updates in the future. www.pokerevents.ie

Something fishy about it to me. There's no contact address or number. No names are mentioned on the website. There's no fixed venue, just rented hotels. All this information would need to be answered before I would be interested.

It is a bit strange now that you mention that...but here you go.

    Contact Fintan 0868173099 (Tournament Director)
    fintan@pokerevents.ie

The reason why there is no fixed venue is not unusual, all major tournaments either use a casino or a hotel. The whole idea of this tournament is to get people into a all Ireland competition so a fixed venue would put alot of people off.

Thanks for that. All major tournaments are usually backed by well know people/sponsors/casinos. That's why this is unusual.

It strikes me as odd that you have to pay a membership fee. All card clubs in Ireland have a free membership.

I'm sure this is probably legit but it is an easy scam. Get people to turn up to qualifiers around the country. Organisers pocket all the cash. All qualifiers go to play in the big €1000 entry game and there are no organisers to be seen.

I'm sure this is not the case but I'm sure you can understand how I might be somewhat wary of this.

The sponsor is Victor Chandler Bookmaker and I was just told that there will actually be online heats for the main events too.

There will be a independant reviewer from Price Water House Coopers (the lottery use them!) to make sure everything is above board and the dealers (like myself) have been fully trained in the Fitzwilliam Card club by a top European dealer.

Seriously this is all above board! Well I hope so because I want to get paid when it all starts :)

I was asked to drum up some interest about the tournaments so if there is anymore questions then just ask away...

Thanks Charlie, it's all starting to come together now.

If VC are sponsoring then why is their name not all over the site? Either not very good marketing or something is not as it seems! Majo companies do not usually put up such vague sites.

    Who is this then?

Website will be updated with significantly more information on 23rd December including everything that has been asked for above as well as confirmed venues and dates. There is also an article in the current issue of Poker Europa about the tournament but I can't find it on their website.

As it stands the dates mentioned above for Galway are confirmed.

Luke Ivory is the gentleman who has been involved with the training of the dealers. He is the card room manager in the Fitzwilliam card club and trains the dealers there, I think he is going to be one of the tournament floor manger for us as well. We have also received training from another chap here in Galway who wouldn't be as well know as Luke in the European poker circles.
