As you can see by the time this thread is posted i'm in on a saturday night-studyin for exam on monday, left it too late again

Also could well have failed maths this morning (im 1st science btw)
Just wondering how generous they are with marks, given i need 32 out of 80 to pass and 1mark for a reasonable attempt (or so we were told)??????

Seen as how it's the seaon of goodwill i thought, more hoped, that marking on the exam would be lenient ;)

Any comments?? veterans of exams or other 1st science alike?

Same here. Have some serious cramming to do tomorrow. Luckily its just an mcq so it probably won't be too bad. I hope. :o

You're all so lucky I have 6 serious exams - one day after another. No lenient marking for me frown.gif well back to studying CORBA and other stuff that was never done in the lectures but will come up in the examrolleyes.gif

You should be ok. 1st science maths isn't too bad. And you've got another half year to make it up if you've done badly. Though the maths department can be stingy bastards with marks sometimes, they don't believe in attempt marks in the way that Leaving Cert examiners do.

Does the first year have any bearing on your overall degree or do you just have to get through the first year?

No, No, No. I stole your Chirstmas, sold it to a fence to whom Elec. Eng paid over the going rate.

yeah i just have to pass everything this year. my other subjects are grand i'm just bad at maths which i suppose isn't a good thing considering i'm doing science! :(

Are they bringing in that grade point average thing or whatever it is??

rainbow kirby: "they don't believe in attempt marks" - sh1t i've failed then for certain!!!

Yeah their whole obsession with "high standards" is a little unhealthy (for us!)We're not finished until the 22nd, it's going to be like being back in primary school again :(

    Poor Elec Eng'ers.

I remember I did a huge derivation and in the very first line I put in
1/(4*pi*epsilon zero), out of habit whereas it should be just 1/(4*pi). Everything else was perfect, just my answer had an extra factor.

Guess how many marks I got for that? Zero.

Reason: "You betrayed a fundamental misunderstanding of the nature of the question. You put an electrostatic term in an electrodynamic equation".

    LOL!

See thats why I never talk to Curran - if he found out just how "blonde" I really am he'd throw me out of the department on principle! Sometimes I think I don't really fit in in there :(

Ah now blondie there's one person he must hate more than you... Isaac Newton!

And his richer, more successful older brother.

Yeah, it's quite a family actually!... especially when a certain professor is taken into account.

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 7,486 ✭✭✭Red Alert

... incidentally whose exam i have tomorrow. She seems a much easier marker than the Scanman.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,604 ✭✭✭blondie83

Apparently the two of them (Curran and the professor)were in the same year in UCD - Imagine the competition in that class! She is a bit easier though than himself at the old marking though. Incidently the Scanman failed my dad in circuit theory in 1975 (I think), failed my brother in circuit theory in 2002, and failed me in circuit theory last Summer. He's very popular altogether in my house! :D

do u have 2 repeat maths?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,635 ✭✭✭tribulus

No i talked to the lecturer and she said as long as i get 40% at the end of the year it doesn't really matter how i accumulated them.
Although 90% goes for the tests and only 10% for th e tutorials
