Road trippin' Europe

Planning on road tripping Europe over the Summer -
    Ennis - Rosslare - Cherbourg - Brussels - Rotterdam - Amsterdam - Antwerp - Maastricht - Luxembourg - Paris - Cherbourg - Rosslare - Ennis.

By the looks of it, there'll be between 4 to 11 people, taking up 10-14 days.

I'm 18, full licence, probably be insured under my own name on a medium sized car - Will I be able to rent a car anywhere (People carrier - Ford Galaxy or something)? There'll be 2-3 drivers, depending on numbers, get 1 or 2 cars.

How much would it be to rent a car like that, and how could we sort insurance?

Should we plan the trip around any cities or events?

    Any input appreciated.

How long have you had your license for?
Generally most places only rent to over 21s, and some over 23s, and you need to have your (full) license at least a year. Sorry to break it to you!
However, if you decide not to go for one of the main car rental shops you may be able to get yourself something, but I don't think it'll be easy.
Best of luck with it though!

Passed the test about a month ago.

If I could get my hands on a car (pay off a friend or car dealer or something)would i be able to get insured for two weeks, and whats the story with getting insured for travelling Europe?

That may be a better idea, although I'm not really sure how the insurance will work. Certain policies will cover you abroad, and I know it is possible to get insured for shorter periods of time (like a month), although am not sure if that is only as a named driver on an already insured car.

Hopefully someone else who knows more about this kind of thing would be able to help you out. I know there are some guys on the Motors forum who know this kind of stuff inside out.

What about if I had the Hibernian Ignition course done? I'm planning on doing it in the next month or so.

I can't see that making a difference on cover abroad, although I could be wrong.
