Firmware upgrade gone wrong!

    i updated the firmware on my laptop dvd/cdrw drive but now it doesnt work.

    The laptop is a advent 3208 model with a QSL sbw-242 drive.

    I tired a firmware upgrade to resolve some issues in which my drive refused to read certain discs. i.e copied dvd and svcd.

    i used firmware upgrade from dell but know my drive doesnt work. Windows detected it ok but it wont read any disc i put into the drive.

    QSL dont provide firmware upgrades from their website. I am going to contact Pcservice call as i have cove gurantee with them. I dont have the details they requie on their website with me though so it will have to wait till the weekend.

    Any suggestions as to how i might get my drive working again. Is a built in one so replacing is a big job i reckon.

    A firewire portable option with dvdrw i think might be a good buy.

    Any suggestions.
