Why not get yourself a normal MP3 player (Creative or Ipod) and get it wired into your car stereo.

You can remove it when necessary and use at will.

Get it hardwired properly. Don't bother with the FM transmitters - they're total crap around Dublin (too many stations cutting in)

Get your ass in early for these bad boys. I know a lot of people hoping to snap one up! :) Do Aldi do a 'one per customer' setup for items like this?

I got a Roadstar one from pixmania, it was around 69 euro, might save you the hassle of fighting the crowds.

    I know Argos have them!!!

The Aldi player isn't strictly an MP3 player since it has no hard disk. It only accepts MP3s on CDs.

I was having a look at that one. It seems it's only 4 X 15W of output power. The Aldi one is 4 X 25W RMS - a little bit more kick. It's €69, but don't forget delivery!

I got mine in argos for €130 and it works pretty well, although it can get a bit jumpy at times. It has the ISO, Detachable fold-down panel, CD/MP3/CD-R/CD-RW, ID3-Tag and all that jazz (and a remote!)The CD based mp3 player is perfect for a car because you can use it for normal cd's aswell.

Of course it is an MP3 player, it just isn't a hard disk based MP3 player. Obvioulsy the dual purpose player in a car offers much more flexibility

If you have major probs, would you post back as I spent my christmas bonus more or less on this today so if its impossible its not getting out of the box and will make its way back to Aldi!

Well anyway lads I got one :D this morning, I was at ALDI this morning at 8:45am and was about tenth in the queue so doors opened and f*ck me the rush from the back of the queue was cat  anyways I got one in the scrum, not my type of shopping I like orderly queues, as regards fitting the stereo if you have a Irish car it will take five minutes to fit, just like putting in a 13amp plug and away you go, doesn't sound to bad either, but if you have a imported car I don't know the story on wiring.

    Cranoo :)

just brought my one back. looks great etc but there was a strange hissing noise when playing cds. right at the start and anytime it was quiet in the song. wasn't there when i press pause so its something to do with the DSP and how the player reads the cd. This happened on MP3 and ordainary cds.

when i was getting my refund the girl said 3 others had been brought back.

this was in Maynooth btw. with a bit of luck it might just be a bad batch and you guys might be ok.

hope this helps, its a great deal otherwise.

Right, thanks for the info lads - dont think I'm going to take the chance on this - will bring it back as got in Maynooth as well. Aldi were doing a DVD player a few weeks back for €45, I ended up getting a different deal so bought the Aldi one back which was a Tevion as well and the manager's 1st words to me were 'OH, another one thats not working!'

Hadnt even opened it but was mightily glad i didnt! Getting a bit wary of Aldi's Tevion stuff now!

manager told me they had got a batch in before that had no problems. oh well.

No major problems got it in eventually, got that hissing noise too.
Dont know if its annoying enough to bring it back.

I fitted one of the Aldi units in a car on Friday. Seems to work fine, but there is a lot of background hiss. Is this a problem or a 'feature'? Also, there doesn't seem to be a way of navigating folders on an MP3 CD. The tracks just seem to list 1 - 200 or whatever (did anyone find a way?). Another 'feature' is that when you turn the unit off and turn it on again (while in the middle of a track), it plays the last track you were listening to from the start again, which personally, I think is a bit annoying.

Apart from these minor gripes, not bad for €80 I suppose. Like everything in life, you get what you pay for.

    DC.

I got a silver one in Maynooth last week. The cd and mp3 seem to work fine with no hissing. I don't think there is a way to move from folder to folder, it just seems to step the mp3 tracks from 1 to 200 or whatever. I did drive to kerry and the 'AF' - auto freq tune does not seem to work - it loses the radio station. Still , not bad for €80.
