An alternative to Sky+ ?

I've thought about upgrading to Sky+, but since I've extended my subscription to include Sky Movies I've been pestered like mad by no.1 son about what movies I let him see. So I've now dropped my Sky sub altogether and decided to live with the FTV/FTA channels.

    So far so good.

What I'd really like to do though is get my hands on a nice multi-satellite receiver with a built-in PVR. At least then I could record the BBC channels and those "in-depth" documentaries that feature on late night German TV ;)

Since I'm restricted to one satellite dish on my house I want to maintain a constant feed both of my Sky digiboxes and also feed a third box, a multi satellite box.

Under these circumstances I guess a steerable dish wouldn't be practical, otherwise I'd put two dishes up, one with a quad LNB for Sky and a steerable dish.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can use?

If you have an "old" spare PC and you're not quite a computer literate you could have a look at http://www.cadsoft.de/vdr/. This at least will allow you to record any of the FTA channels on Astra 28.2 (all BBC and ITV3 in the moment) as well as any others on 19.2 for example provided you have the right feeds from your disk(s). Of course beside the PC there will be some initial investment required though :) .

As for the one dish restriction you'll have to go for a dual or quad LNB to feed multiple receivers, which will also mean some extra wires along the way.

One of these and a bucket load of LNBs. As for PVRs, possibly Topfield, Technomate, Dreambox if you want to mess about or one of the new Manhattans with blindsearch.

I would get 88cm dish with motor, Lots above. 26e free to air movies (MBC), a bit behind but not bad. Wont pull in much with digi dish. You could view 42e/36e/(28.2-28.5 Sky) 26e/19.2e/16e/13e/5e/30w/ Not much on rest. SO you have a good choice if you go the motor way.
