Outstanding, cheers for the link. I have absolutely no use for a server, but it's gotta be worth that in parts!

Not bad at all! I'm in the same boat as tuco - don't need a server, but I could use the case hard drive and RAM etc.. Works out at €239.58 including VAT and Delivery though

dont forget the memory is ddr ecc, so probably no use in a home pc

one probably could make a small profit selling it for parts via ebay, but not much. still a good deal if anyone needs a small server for home/office

Yep...ordered one first thing this morning...cheers Amigaman. Don't think you could go wrong at that price ;)

Seems that the offer has finished as I can't see it anymore.

Yup any reference to it is gone off the site altogether.

I was this ¦-¦ close to ordering one.

But just coundn't justify it seen as how I have more computers than I know what to do with.

    damn good deal though.

Phew! I was starting to clear my credit card and was very close to buying this as well. Now all that temptation is gone :)

Maybe they made a mistake on the price??

A couple of weeks ago - they were selling projectors which were worth €1,500 for something like €30 which was an obvious mistake by someone. A mate of mine here in work bought 6 of them to take advantage of it but he got a mail later saying that his order was cancelled. He's got his solicitor after them now =)

OH my god, your mate is a joke man,
it was blatant it was a mistake, I hope he looses(which he will)
I don't even see why a solicitor thinks there a case in this, he made an "offer" to buy them, dell refused.
Tell your mate not to be such a scabby ****er and trying to take advantage of other peoples mistakes

I would have done the same only they changed the price quick enough!

Not sure about the legalities but his solicitor told him something about them advertising the price so they have to sell at that price - not too sure about it though - dont want to start a legal debate here.

Prices stated on the website aren't advertisements, they're invitation to treat. While these are legally supposed to be correct, they don't oblige the retailer to sell. All they do is protect the consumer from paying a higher price than stated (that is, the retailer has two choices - Sell at the marked price, or refuse to sell.).
Advertising works differently. In the past retailers have been forced to honour prices on advertisements. I would argue that the dell website is not an advertisement, but a shop, because of the way dell do their business.

As for this being a mistake, I don't think it was, they've had similar offers in the past not quite this good but near enough. I think somebody in the computers board also mentioned that it was an end of line clearance too.

    .

Presumably the difference, and the legal basis in this case is that the retailer went one step further than the 'invitation to treat' . . If the transaction went through and was accepted by the retailer at the mistaken price, the buyer may well have a case . . .

Intel Xeon (spelling?) 2.4 GHz, 80GB 7200RPM IDEHD, SCSI controller on board, Gigabit Ethernet, 8MB graphics, CD drive...

    No AGP slot though.

This wasn't a mistake - the machines have been end of line for a while now.

This has happened before (mistakes on dell websites) and Dell have a clause in the terms and conditions that says an order isn't accepted until you get a written Order Confirmation from Dell. I don't think this is generated automatically when ordering online.

Mistakes in prices on websites happen occasionally, and they never are obliged to sell the products at the specified price. occasionally they give a few away at the price for public relations only, not because they have to. Most sites actually have it in their tos somewhere. seen threadsa bout it on boards before, Have bought a hifi or something before and they trie dto charge me full price

two friends who ordered this have had their orders canceled today, their order time was about 5-10 minutes before this thread even went up. weird. hell/dell maybe giving preference to other persons (companies/employees buddies etc)?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 400 ✭✭ClonmelMan

with the recent mis-price on the projector, I did not hear anything for about 5 days then got an email saying it was canceled, that email had a date in it that was two days old. Anyway, hell can go to dell ;) quite bad customer support from my experience
good luck to all who ordered, hopefully you'll get your 1600SC fine

A friend and I had an order in for 2 servers and they got cancelled.
I am beginning to wonder was it just a publicity stunt.

If his credit card was charge, thne a contract was entered into and he has a very good case - if it wasn't charged, then there's no contract and no case.

This is a bit of a grey area now. Retailers can "reserve" your credit on the card, so they haven't actually charged you, but you can't take the delivery of the goods and have a maxed out card when they attempt to charge you.

I rented a car last year, and they needed a €1000 "deposit" - what they did is make sure I had €1000 free on my credit card, then reserved it for themselves. While I had the car, my available balance was down by a grand, but no charge was ever made against the card.
