Since I've been connected with LAN I cannot do the same things I used to do with my old connection. I can't connect to msn messenger, p2p sharing programs and java chatrooms.
    Can anyone help??

If you're on XP and have service pack 2 installed it might be the built-in firewall. Check the security center in control panel to find out and disable/relax the settings.

You may need to forward the ports that those programs need to your computer. For example, ive got port 6881 and 6969 forwarded... Whatever I might want those for ;)
    Try googling port forwarding

yes i would presume u have an admin with your router (im not sure how yours is set up) but 1 of my options are port forwarding u just need to find the ports that the programs you want use and open them so they are allowed...odd that with my router i could get on msn ..and browse but that was it

and yeh sp2 firewall is crap..i set it to off..ill monitor it myself (ive got sygate) and the stupid thing still pops up every so often saying it should block so and so...god..it just cant leave me alone
