    your friend www.google.ie does ;)

afaik its an increased speed bus
which gets more info onto the pci card
therefore allowing faster gfx cards receive mroe info to process

yeah basically its faster than AGP8x but theres no graphics cards out yet that actually take full advantage of the increased bus! also, in the future, there will be motherboards with more than one PCI-e slots where you can use a method known as SLI to attach two of the same graphics cards together to double your graphics performance, ie one gfx card does top half of screen, other does the bottom half! PCI-e is backwards compatible aswell.

hehe this is my "404" post! :D

There have been Intel boards out for a while now, Socket 775 (?) I think although most people are waiting for the new Socket 939 Athlon64 PCI-E boards, which should be emerging roughly around Christmas IIRC. These new Nforce4 motherboards will have an SLI option, which seems to be extremely funky from early benchmarks.
Search the Computers and Tweaking/Modding forums for more info on PCI-E, it's been talked about to death already on both boards.

Hey The_B_Man is it really backwards compatible?? You don't mean with AGP cards?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,893 ✭✭✭The_B_Man

sorry i meant it works with older PCI cards. it is NOT compatible with any form of AGP card at all.

Heard some very strange reports on SLi. Good and bad. They say "brilliant or verdict still out" ,ya its busted the 10,000 mark on 3dmark with two 6800 Ulrtas(i think) but sometimes the games dont acccept them and all that.Try www.techreport.com
and for the pci-e thing try just plain old www.microsoft.com its in there somewhere
