My printer arrived today. I have to say, I'm very impressed with it. Haven't tried printing on CD's yet but looking forward to the results :)

    Thanks again zod!

They're a great printer, got one a while back from the same place (though I paid a bit more :( ) . The CD/DVD print is class.

Tried the CD printing a little while ago and again I was very impressed! My brother-in-law is also thinking of getting one after seeing mine so I'd defiantly recommend it to you.

If your wondering what you get with it; you get 1 complete set of ink (6 cartridges), 10 sheets of glossy photo paper and 3 blank “52x” printable CDs.

The only downside is that the manual is in French but there is an English manual on the installation CD so that’s not really a problem. Also, you dont get a USB cable with it so if you dont have one lying around, you'll have to buy that too.

It took 1 week for delivery. I ordered it Sunday night and had it on Friday so that’s not bad at all. When you take the price into account it’s a very good deal.

Edit: Including shipping, the total price for me was €140.

EDIT 2: Just looked at the site again and the price for the printer has gone up. Its now €142 Inc VAT. Shipping will be extra.

The R300 uses T481/2/3/4/5/6 cartridges - 6 cartridges - about 16 euro each, and refill's are near impossible (but can be in some Cartridge World shops for about 8 bucks each).

I wouldn't go for it - the printers cheap, but the cartridges are killer.
The cartridges you get with the printer itself are only about half full (weight them with an electronic scales and post them back here) - i'll check with the weight charts then (which i'm sure can be found on the net).

Thats about the extent of it, dont go for this printer in my opinion - i spend my time working on them. Not too sure on the latest HP range (think the latest cartridges are number 100 and the likes). The 57 and 58 photos are alright, but can be awful bastards if they want to be.

You can get complete sets of inks (all 6 - generic brand) from £7.99 (+p&p) on ebay.

The number of cartridges is supposed to make it more economical .. the costs over three years is estimated here :

for all the major competitors .. the epson is close to the cheapest.

The Espon R300 is €149 in PC World, which probably works out just as cheap (probably even cheaper) than PixMania after the price hike. Plus there's the fact that you can walk in and collect it straight away, without having to deal with couriers, or in particular, God forbid; GLS.

The Epson R300 has gone down to €139.47 (including delivery) on Amazon, only €10 cheaper than PC World, but it's delivered to your door; handy if you don't live near Galway/Limerick/Dublin.
I'm about to order one; the price seems to change weekly - last week it was gone up to about €190, the week before it was €139 again.

i bought it in currys for e139.99 during christmas. Good printer. Does take alot of time to start up. Regarding the printing on cd/dvd. Do you have to stick paper on the cd/dvd first? The ink doesn't dry on the cd/dvd.

My local Currys don't stock any decent mid-high range printers, but €139.99 is a bargain for an R300.
The CD/DVD printing is for printable CD/DVDs only - ones that are specially designed to be printed on - like you said, the ink doesn't dry properly on standard discs. Sticking paper on the discs kind of negates the purpose of the CD/DVD tray though - since the labels are reported to be potentially dangerous. Plus they're damn awkward.
