For those who don't know if you kick a ball out from behind your 22 it doesnt have to bounce before it goes into touch.Enabling a quick clearance
Does anyone else find this rule a bit annoying?
I understand why it was brought in and all that but i think they should modify it slightly to speed the game up. That you cant pass over the 22 and kick it straight out beacuse it wasnt played over the 22 line?
Think this would cause an awful lot more of open play and countre attcking rugby. Anybody got an views.

I like the idea of that....always find it annoying that a player wasn't allowed run into his 22 to kick the ball straight into touch but he could pass it to a team mate who could....

What im mean is. Lets say a high ball goes up and its caught outside the 22,then a ruck is formed the scrum-half passes the ball into the 22 while being outside it when he passed it.
What i am saying is the ball has to be played/carried into the 22 before it is legal to kick it stright out but if its passed from outside then no.
Similar to the try line rule.Where you cant carry it over and touch it down it has to be played before you can touch it down, otherwise it would be a 5metre scrum to the opposing team.

I pesonally think the rule should stay as it is. I think it is a good rule and if it was changed to be like the try line rule that it would just make the game more scrapy cos the ball would be kicked into open play a lot more

Devil's advocate here. Couple of issues...
    1) What happens if I catch the ball outside the 22, run back into my 22 and pass to a team mate - can he kick straight in? [it's been played/carried in there in the first half]
    2) I catch the ball outside me 22 and am tackled and a ruck forms half a metre outside the 22. The last man of the ruck has his legs inside the 22. The ball comes back to the scrumhalf, also inside the 22.... can he kick straight to touch? if he passes to the outhalf, can he?
    3) I am tackled outside me 22, stay on me feet in a maul but my forwards are slow getting to me so i am driven back into me 22 before me forwards arrive, do well and get the ball back to the S/H.... now can he kick to touch????

I reckon there's too many "what if's" in this rule that we need to just leave it as it is....

    mmmmmmmmmmm...................... Nice points

1.You ran over the 22 so therefore not played into the 22 so no has to bounce first.
2.Really hard to call becuse last man rul in a ruck/maul/scrum is considered in play-so would have to say, played into the 22 therefore can kick straight out.
3.Ball was played, as a maul counts as play so you can kick it straight out.

    .

i agree with all of that except no 1!!! I've seen it happen that a player carries the ball back into his own 22 and then passes it to another player who is allowed kick it out on the full

Ya thats the way it is now. If i ran over the my own 22 and then passed it to you then you can clear it on the full. But my gripe is that if ya run backwards to get into the 22 then no. But maybe your right caus it would be seen as goin backwars and of no real strategic advantage  *me strokes chin*
