Oooooh you are soooooo witty :D
How do I get rid of the fecker???????

i didn't actually mean that... i was funny and i didnt know it...

i always find with these type of spots that theres not much you can really do about them except 'sit them out'.

The clerasil medicated pads are always handy to have. I got a tub of them and they do me about a year as they are only used in 'emergencies'...

they always seem to do the job...

All I know is they're sore bastards! No idea how to get rid of them either. Get them occasionally and they last for at least a week :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,889 ✭✭✭Third_Echelon

now that i think about it, when i do get one im usually a bit run-down and under the weather..

some sleep, vitamin c (loads of orange juice) and a good scrub always does the trick

Why do you need to get rid of it urgently? Popping a zit right before something important is a really bad idea as I'm sure you've heard many a time, but we do it anyway :p It's okay if you've a day or two to spare for the mark to clear up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 78,574 ✭✭✭✭Victor

I went through a phase of them, I get the impression it's a blocked and/or infected pore / follicle that just doesn't empty itself at all until the immune sytem goes "Oi! Whats this".

All I can suggest is lots and lots of water and maybe a long bath up to chin level.

If they are persistant, then maybe talk to doc.

Because it is HIDEOUS and I can feel it and I hate it and I have to be somewhere on Monday and I just dont want a spot on my chin!!!!!
Can't be popped - it is a big lump under the skin.

Put toothpaste on the spot and leave it on as much as possible, dries it up!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,213 ✭✭✭✭therecklessone

Try a dollop of sudocrem on it, might reduce the angriness of it.

A lot of the time problems such as this can be dietary related.
If you cut down on a) sugary things and b) things high in fat- I think you will notice a big difference. Thereafter- drink lots of water.

For immediate problem- if its an issue thats actually stopping you leaving the house- a little foundation in natural colour will hide it. Then use, and keep using, lots of clearasil (the wipes are handy).

Ok, well maybe I was being a little over dramatic....
I have covered it with concealer, but it just looks like a big lump covered in concealer.....

It is not a proper pimple. It feels like a walnut on my chin. :(

try puttin vodka or another spirit on em.

you should try applying a hot sponge or towel to the area. It draws out the bad stuff...
Also, holding an icecube to the area can calm down the redness.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,263 ✭✭✭Caesar_Bojangle

Hold an ice cube or something frozen like a bag of peas to it for 20minutes. It's meant to reduce big swollen spots.

I find that once it's ripe for the squeezin' the bathroom mirror seems appreciative of the dead white bloodcells ! :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,478 ✭✭✭tribble

I had one on my nose once.
Only it grew inwards and was basically invisible from the outside.
    Flithy bastid.
Was there for a week before I dug it out.
    There was blood everywhere,
but I was rewarded by a volley of lumpy white puss and a solid root.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 217 ✭✭Bessacadia

    yuk yuk YUK

WHY is there such satisfaction at popping zits? It hurts, makes a mess on the mirror, and your face looks worse so why do it?
    don't say any more

I might just try the *paper bag on head* look

Then you really would get noticed! ;)

I hate these type of pimples! If you will hold a hot washcloth on it, basically "steam" it for a while, it helps quite a bit. The ones in the earlobes are sebaceous cysts, usually, and your dermatologist can get rid of them for you. Keep your hands off of it, I know it's difficult!

Probably not great for the skin, but it works when you need to get rid of a spot fast - dab some undiluted Dettol onto it. Don't overdo it though, it'll just start to burn a bit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,367 ✭✭✭✭GreeBo

Sometimes a pin is your best friend.
Burn the end of the pin (dont wipe off the black/sulphur) and give the spot a few pricks. If you can see an obvious head on it, go for that, otherwise just a few holes is good. Then you can usually have a good squeeze :)
Even if you just get blood, at least the release of pressure makes it go down a bit.
Give it a good scrub afterwards and a bit of Savlon/TCP.
The toothpaste trick also works well at this stage.

Way to infect it. How about getting a doctor / nurse to use some anti-septic and a sterile lance?

Clearasil, toothpaste etc are good for open spots but won't actually do much for ones under the skin. What you need to do is bring it to a head and the best way to do this is wait, however if you steam it or cover it with a cotton ball soaked in hot salty (to kill infection when it opens) water it may help. Be warned though that this will not make it go away, but only speed recovery time and make it easier to deal with using the aforementioned techniques.

Get a facecloth and rub the crap out of the bugger, once you draw blood it usually subsides.

Yes but this isn't a medical forum to be honest.

Any advice that comes under a sub-heading of 'blood' is, from now on, my classification of medical advice.

Sure. It's probably due in part to a blocked pore so here's what you do. Get a towel (it doesn't have to be a big one, you'll only be using a corner of it). You'll also need a kettle with boiling water in it. Or a tap with hot water coming out of it. If using the lettle let the water cool down a tad. Dip corner of towel in water. Press wet corner of towel to offending area. Repeat a few times with the odd little rub.

I see athena 2000 has already suggested this. Works a treat.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 53 ✭✭Lioness

No actually, it was me who suggested it 1st. :p

well, since everyone else has given their opinions, i suppose i should stick my oar in.

the way to get rid of it is to open all the windows in your living room, undress down to your 'wares, and then do a little dance of joy to the gods of thunder. once that has been done, turn around 3 times, nod your head up and down vigorously and then try and break dance.

the spot will more than likely be there, but you should have a good case of the head spins not to notice it.

the worse thing about spots, is that the only people who really notice them, are the people who have them!
i cant say i ever notice them until some says 'i have this huge thing on my face, and its really sore, and its the centre of my life at the moment, and i cant look anyone in the eye, because i might catch them staring wide-eyed with mouth open at the spot' when in fact its just a spot, no differnt than the millions of others you probably didnt notice on thousands of other people you see everyday :)

its the ones you get on the inside of your nose that i hate :(
    lol

The bloody thing is still there.

After taking on board all your advice,(some of it veryodd :D )

I have decided to just sit it out.
If you happen to be in Mullingar and see an odd looking woman with a long red wig and floppy hat on, it's not me, OK?
