    Guys,
I have a Pentium 3(866Mhz) and I'm looking put a bit more pep in to my PC and get a new processor.

I was looking at some specials(a couple of quid saved) at Komplett for the sempron 2500+ and sempron 2600+ (165 and 185 respecively, includling mobo and 256Mb ram).
They also have a intel 2.4GHz celeron(D320) with mobo and 256mb ram for 178.
What would you advise? I have read that the celerons are a crap processor but that the celeron D are better.

So do I buy a sempron or celeron?

    JC

I read that the semprons beat their celeron D equivalents and AMD are usually better as a gaming processor.

Personally I jumped from a P933 to an xp2600 which I also overclocked and haven't been happier (altho it's sloooooowly starting to be outdated specially now that stuff like physics and other stuff and becoming more important in games).

I see an Athlon Xp 2500+ on elara for 100.72 .
That plus a compatible board should be possible for 150.Unless someone picks up on my post in the wanted board!

    Thanks Canis

Don't think theres much difference between them to be honest. Check out this review. http://www.hexus.net/content/reviews/review.php?dXJsX3Jldmlld19JRD04Mjc=

Note that all semperons are socket A with the exception of the semperon 3100+ which is socket 754 and is basically a 64bit cpu hobbled to be 32bit only. So its a screamer. If you can stretch to that it would be worth it. Also an older Athlon (barton) 2500xp is faster than a Semperon 2500+

Since theres not much difference between CPU's I'd be looking at which motherboard/socket, 478/775, socketA/754/939 has the best upgrade path and go with that.

Alternatively you see a good few socket A cpu's and boards going 2nd hand. Which would save you a lot of money.
