I need to order my new laptop by tomorrow - big client presentation next week!

I'm trying choose between these two. I will mainly be used for presentations & office & browsing activities.

I'm tempted to go for the Sony, just for the screen but its €150 more expensive than the ACER & the spec isn't as good.

€1,467(ex.vat) 2nd down Sony Vaio A115Z with the 'X-Black LCD' these are gorgous screens.

    or the sligthly better spec

    €1,314(ex.vat) Acer Aspire 2023WLMi

Which would you choose, has anyone seen the quality of the ACERs screens?

Certainly the Acer for reasons three:
    1) Savage graphics card (for a laptop anyway
    2) Better speakers
    3) The Sony 'X-Black LCD' is just a crappy brand name, like 'Kodak Color Science' - There really is little difference.

Even if the Acer was more expensive, I'd go for it instead. It also has better battery life

PS: It is awfully like the Dell Inspiron 8600c. Maybe you should consider this also

The Acer certainly has a better spec.. However, totally disregard the previous statement for snapscan, its bull****. I would suggest going into PC World the next change you get and marvel at the different between the Sonly screens and all other brands.. Some other brands are slowly introducing the same technology though. The difference will blow you away..

Personally I dont like the shiny sony screens. What I would say (and I hate to say it) the Sony majkes a better impresion with customers/clients. Personaly I dontlike Vaios in general. Build quality has been questioable in the past and they tend to include a lot of Sony custom hardware, making thme painfull to change the OS if they dont support it.

Acer has a better spec and the gfx card is much better. Spend the extra 150 on the Acer "do anything you want to the laptop and we will fix it" 3 year warrenty. Very handy. There is an €100 exces on fixing screens though.

Pencil: i thought you wanted to build a computer a week ago
Oh well your decision: go for the ACER in my view :D

go with the acer if you want value for money,
go with the sony if you want that extra bit of style and "pow wow"

Either way they are both nice machines and shoulds serve you well

    hey thanks,

the machine build a week ago was for a mate.

I/m thinking acer but finding it hard to drag myself away from the sony screen - I'd agree about the build quality not being A1 on the sonys though.

Has anyone see the acer screens?

have to say i'd go with the sony, actually jsut ordered me a 17" one of that series from ebay, but then again the screen is no.1 thing that matters to me, acer screens i've seen are totally average.

Same as any other laptop basicaly. I have a TravelMate 800. Have you see the Sony screens in person? They dont blow me away and just look like they are much easier to scratch.

Where is good & fast to buy laptops from, where accepts credit card payments? (laptopdirect.co.uk won't accept CC from Ireland)

I was just onto www.laptopdirect.co.uk & they want an additional £198 to upgrade to 1gb RAM & £149 to upgrade to WIN XP PRO - way to expensive!!

Some nice machice here www.rockdirect.com & they will only charge £50 to upgrade to WIN XP PRO.

The Acer is the one to go for but I can't justify paying £198 english pounds (thats €286.114) to upgrade to 1GB of ram !! Or £149 to upgrade to XP PRO

So am looking elsewhere - any suggestions?

www.elara.ie? I bought my Acer from them (but I wasnt paying for it so wasn't overly pushed on price) they import from the UK so their prices are good generally.
