I got a new (bigger) internal hard drive a while ago. Connected it up to existing system all working fine, using old and new drive. Now I want to get rid of the old drive, clear the new one and put my operating system on to new drive and start from new. Any ideas ware to start and finish?

Swap the new drive onto the master slot of the IDE ribbon and reset the jumpers as to master. Remove and store the old drive carefully away (never know when you'll need it again). Insert a bootable disk of your operating system of choice, format\partiton the disk as you need and install the OS.

It really is as simple as all that.

    What OS ?
If you want to start from new, then remove the old drive (gently - treat like eggs) and put the new drive on the same cable. Install the OS (joy Oh joy)
then disconnect the cables form the CD rom and put the old drive there so now both drives are in the PC - copy files across as necessary.

Which OS ? - details vary a lot between them as do copy protection / recoverability.

If you want the new drive to be an exact copy of the old one...
Linux/Dos/Win95/98 very easy to clone by just copying files (search Lcopy )
ME - most of us including microsoft pretend this never happened
NT - use cloning app Ghost or partimage to copy drive
2K/XP - use Ntbackup to backup the Old drive to a file on the new one. Then restore that file to the new drive , overwriting all files on the new drive.

At this stage you can put the CD back again. You could get both drives working at the same time, or keep it as a spare or, since you said you wanted to get rid of it, you could send it to me :D
