I've run the latest AVG and I can detect this bugger, but can't remove it.

    ied.exe
    Trojan Horse Downloader.Mediket.B
    C:\ied_s7m.cab:\ied.exe

    Any ideas?

Just delete C:\ied_s7m.cab [and delete it from Recycle Bin as well]

AVG should be happy then :D

I presume you already tried deleting C:\ied_s7m.cab:\ied.exe. If not, try this first.

If you are prevented from deleting it for some reason, you can instead delete teh registry key that references it. From a commandline prompt, type 'regedit' to edit the windows registry. Search for ied.exe. Delete the registry key which refers to this executable.

You probably can't delete it as its currently in use.

As with all viruses I'd reccomend:

    a) print off the removal instructions.
    b) disconnect from the net.
    c) reboot and enter safe mode.
    d) delete the appropriate file.
    e) search the registry using regedit and remove any mention of the file.
    f) re-boot into normal mode re-run a full system check.

Never thought of specifying the OS. It's on XP

I couldn't find the file in question. I tried searching for it and browsing to it but to no effect. Is there another way to delete it that I don't know about? command line or something?

Kali-Where would I find removal instructions for this virus?

Thanks for the speedy replies :)

I couldn't find the file in question.
If you are looking for ied.exe, you probably won't find it.

According to your first post, AVG detected it in ied_s7m.cab.

ied_s7m.cab is a compressed archive of files [like a zip file] that contains ied.exe

AVG searches inside archives and that it is where it is finding the problem.

Delete ied_s7m.cab and you should be OK

Try either Symantec or Panda antivirus online scanner, they may be able to remove the virus.
