Hard Drive Problem?

    Righto,

Just change my pc case over and there were no problems at all. Everything went in, connected, wired up etc no probs.

However........upon turning the thing on the bios hangs at checking the hard drive. I've discon the hard drive and bios continues normally up to looking for an os. Strange thing is it doesn't say in the bios if its found the harddrive or not, the bios just stops. Strange.

Anyway, Im reckoning that the act of moving the hard drive from case to case has pushed it over the edge and killed it. However before I splash out the reddies on a new hard drive has anybody had this prob before?

The motherboard is a KV7M4 and its a western digital 20gb IDE hard drive.

    Cheers

    Chris

Is it on the correct IDE cable, as master?

Yeah I was reading all the faqs online about swapping drives and I reckon that could be a poss.

I must admit as to thinking that I'd just crack the thing open pull all the bits out and pop them in the new case. It has proved to be otherwise though.

If it was on the wrong cable would that result in a hang in the bios before it detected the hard drive?

At the moment it starts up and detects the processor then stops.

    Cheers

you could have broken the ide cable itself. Try swoping the ide cable on your cd-rom drive with you Hard drive. One of those 40 pins on the hard drive might be damaged. check them

Yeah I'll give that a bash and see if i get any joy.

Just wanted to see if there was any obvious explanation other than the hard drive dying as I havn't got a clue. Ah well its all a learning experience.

I've got another drive on order anyway as that one was getting a bit long in the toothe.

    Cheers

Managed to rustle up another hard drive and it is indeed the original one thats dead. Boots up no problem from the replacement.

Ah well I needed more space anyway.

Cheers for the help anyway lads.
