Unable to import more than 3kwh on night rate

Hi,

I've got a 10kwh Huawei LUNA2000-5KW-C0 battery with my solar panel setup.

Self build house, with 16KVA connection to ESB.

Battery is configured to charge/import between 2am - 4am as most do in Ireland.

It's not allowing me to configure a higher draw than 3kwh.

I've talked to the installer, and they've advised "It is a hardware limit from the BMS on grid charging."

If my battery is lower in the day, it'll charge at a high rate from excess solar power.

They've advised this is because "Higher charging will occur from the panels because the current is already DC."

Am I gimped here with the type of battery I have? Ideally I'd like to draw down as much as I can on the night rate and ensure my battery is full..

So to unpick this… that's the battery, but what model of inverter is fitted? Where are you seeing the limit of 3kW specifically? In the inverter does it pick-up the model and spec of the battery BMS correctly? Photos or screen-shots would probably help.

The spec sheet for the DC battery input appears to imply that 5kW is the max supported power with any battery, but is 3.5kW with an LG Chem 7H_R battery (which you don't have, but an interesting point none the less).

I'd be telling your installer to open a case with Huawei, but wait and see if others on here know more as I'm only guessing.

I'd have thought most would be on a 3 hour EV rate 2-5am?

That is 9kWh, and my 5kWh battery does not go to 0 but 10%. So if I had a 10kW battery I would get 9kW in the cheap window.

It doesn't answer your question but might be a workaround.

Its looking like its a limit with the inverter not the battery, It can only charge the battery from the grid at 3kW.

When charging from solar, it is not using the AC grid charging hardware. (as huawei use high voltage batteries)

I have the same battery, but only 5kWh. These are my settings, no such limit. I note the screen is slightly different, but I agave no idea if that’s significant.

Sun2000-5KTL-K. Yours appears to be the 6kw model, hence the different name I’m assuming.

My installer told me I can have up to 15kwH of batteries, so I’m not sure why yours is restricted like that.

Is your software all up to date?

Yours, I'm sorry to say, has some other issue… "Maximum Charge Power Off Grid (kW) = 30.000" is not right either.

Maybe there's an issue in the firmware here. Again I'd suggest opening a case, it might be a known issue.

interesting. I think it’s been that way since setup so I’ve no idea what is the correct setting. Certainly no problem charging my battery in 2.5 hours every night, while also charging the car.

Sun2000-5KTL-L1 inverter is capable of charing batteries only with 3kW power (doesnt matter if 5kW or 6kW inverter). New LB0 can charge with 5kW.

Yes and no - i should be more specific (and yes, spec is misleading).
5000W battery charing is possible only from PV aray (DC only)
3000W (little bit less) is from grid (AC)
