New LPT on derelict cottage & landdirect.ie folio updates after subdivision

    I have a deposit on a derelict cottage with a couple of acres in county Cork. Vacant since about 2012. I placed a deposit on the place in late Nov 25 and there is still no contract passed to my solicitor.

    I am told they are waiting on the cottage to have a Local Property Tax number generated.

    My two questions please;

    • How long does it take for the county council to create a LPT? (I know its a How long is a piece of string question but maybe I could hear of other experiences, good and bad)

    The vendor has set aside couple of acres for themself not to be sold off so I imagine there would be some sort of redrawing of the property boundaries.

    • If a parcel is divided into two, would the landdirect.ie website be updated as soon as the new boundaries are recorded?

    I have been checking landdirect.ie to see if any changes have been made but maybe that is not a marker of any progress.

    Thank you kindly for whatever insight you can share with me.

    It's Revenue that generates the LPT number, it can take around 6-8 weeks

    The new boundaries won't be recorded until after the sale is closed and your registration has completed in the Land Registry, and the new Folio is opened in your name
