Ipad unavailable, can I delete from find my?

Hey all,

My son is non verbal and has an ipad as an AAC (communication device). Something happened at school today and the ipad started showing unavailable message. The pin which had been set months ago stopped working. No idea what they did in school, but I'm presented with the message in attached image.

We have a 2nd ipad as a backup, and both are connected to find my, so can I delete the AAC ipad from the 2nd ipad and then just set it up as a new device again?

Or do I need to connect the ipad to a computer and try to go through recovery mode?

Any help is greatly appreciated, I really need this resolved before going back to school on Monday.

I'm not a techie but as far as i know this can be done…get a step by step guide from an ai tool (i just checked it on perplexity - sent it to you by pm) but it looks straightforward.
