Cancun always looks nice - great all inclusive hotels, etc but I have some reservations about booking a holiday there.
Is it generally full of Americans? I personally find that they can be a bit hard to take when they let their hair down.
Does Cancun have the same expectations around tipping as US locations?

    Anyone have any experience?

I did Cancun few years back, yes, lots of Americans but, i preferred that to loud brits.

If you're All Inclusive don't worry too much about tipping, I just give something at the end to staff who made my stay better and something in the general box for those behind the scenes. With so many American's around they bring their tipping culture with them.

I liked Cancun, beach was a bit seaweed logged but in our hotel it was cleaned every morning.

We stayed in an Adults Only hotel and had a brilliant time, would definitely go back, our only times outside of the hotel were local trips by bike to the nearby village organised with the hotel (great fun) and an overnight in Chichen Itza - we had a very small group sunrise tour which was amazing, arranged by hotel at Chichen Itza - it gets mad busy during normal hours.

Went to Porta Del Carmen (I think it is called), took a local taxi, couldn't wait to get away from the place.

Pick a very good All Inclusive, its worth the investment, avoid hurricane season…

Thanks @thebiglad this is very helpful. When is hurricane season please?

Suggest a google before you invest your money but, I believe it is Mid August to Mid October. I was there is late Sept early Oct and weather was great although humid, you will adjust to that in couple of days - I found the hotel prices were lower although hurricane risk was pretty much passed so, it suited us.

    Will definitely go back.

Hurricane season is June to October - usually strongest late August/early September

May take a chance on a trip mid-October, before the mid-terms push the prices up.

mid terms wont push up the prices from Ireland - unless you mean mid term break in schools and not US mid terms elections

Hopefully they increase the frequency in Winter 2026/27 as this year flights were January to March only.

Flew there a few weeks back , Aerlingus was full of French , German, Dutch , transiting through Dublin flights were fine, plane was full -10.5 hours out 8 back , resort was fantastic , worked out to be reasonable for all inclusive , food was excellent.

    Would go again in January.
