Tablet for 10 year old

Yes, I know, another thread looking for advice on tablets, but just looking for a fresh perspective at end of 2025

My 10 year old has asked for a tablet for Christmas, she would use it mainly for youtube and web browsing

Can anyone recommend a cheapish tablet that will do this? (would an amazon fire allow this)

We are an iphone house and familiar with these, but open to any other suggestions. Budget maybe 150 or will that even be enough

I guess she does not want anything too kiddish as she is getting that bit older now unfortunately :(

There are so many options out there with prices from 50 euro to 500 euro and im not sure what one does over the other, but as above, just for basic use

Yes excellent tablet for that age both mine have it age 11 and 9 and after a year of use mainly roblox and Minecraft it has not slowed down and they've never had an issue with them

Honestly for just Youtube and webbrowsing I would doubt that you would see any real difference between the two options.

My daughter had a Fire tablet and the battery life has been very impressive. Previously had a Lenovo which lost its charge quicker.

when does an older iPad get too old though and not supported etc.

would 2019 be as far back as I should go?
any further back and it may not allow iOS updates etc

The iPad you have linked to will be 5 years old. So battery health would be a concern for me.

I'd be more concerned about lack of support for the used iPad. It will quickly get to a point where you can't update apps because the operating system is out of date.

I got a refurbished Lenovo tablet 9 years ago think it was the tab 2 A10 and it’s still going grand. Not used regularly these days (few times a week here and there) and battery life not what it was but it took a bit of abuse over the years too and only issue I had was over the last year or two I had to take the back off it and unseat the battery as it went into a deep battery drain or something and this resets it (something along those lines) but was an easy fix after 8-9 years. Make sure and get a case for your tablet, those ones that also act as a fold up prop / stand for the tablet are handy and fairly common and it then flips over when not in use to cover the screen.

I went with the Lenovo tab M11. Not overly familiar with Android. Just want to be prepped, let’s say my daughter just wants to use it for YouTube and browsing, is YouTube preloaded as an app or do I have to go doing Android store type stuff, creating accounts etc.

YouTube usually comes pre-installed.

Android is owned by Google, as is YouTube. You don't need a YoutTube account you can watch stuff not-signed in.

grand, so initially, she should be able to just use it easily enough,obviously have to go through boot up and settings etc, but after this should be able to use you tube and a browser

Can I suggest you set it up before christmas day? Power it on, connect it to the wifi, and create a Google child account. I'm saying this because me and others on this thread will be here over the next couple of days to assist you, but come December 25th I probably wont be on boards (much).

to download non pre loaded apps you need a Google play store account for you or your child (equivalent of iTunes for android) but some things I’m sure will come pre loaded or you can just use web browser on it and get into YouTube that way.

This is what im telling you, she will need her own email address, and as she is under 13, it needs to be a Google CHild address. It will be tied to your own email address, but when she's setting up the tablet it would be a good diea to be able to sign in with the google child address. It adds additional checks and safety settings for a child.
