Hi folks. I'm looking for a decent, Dolby Atmos speaker system for a small room. The focal speakers seem to fit the bill from what I've read , small form yet big enough sound and performance.

I am looking for an AV receiver to pair with them. One that supports HDM1 2.1, Dolby Vision, latest HDR etc as I'll be gaming on my setup too.

Obviously I don't want to go overkill with the AV as I'll only be using it for 5.1.2 and I'd like something that is simple and intuitive to use.

I know upwards firing Atmos speakers are not the most ideal as opposed to ceiling speakers so id want an AV receiver that gives excellent height and surround effects.

Also, it would be lovely if the AV was a good stereo music listening setup too

    Looking forward to your suggestions.

    Thanks in advance

Also. I see you can buy a pair of the Sib Evo Atmos speakers separately. Is it possible to add a pair and run these in a 7.1.4 setup?

If so, which AV receiver options would you recommend?

    Thanks again

Thanks for the post Genetic Deviant.

The Focal Sib Evos are amazing, we have them on display and they're one of the best satellite systems - with the addition of the Atmos upfiring speakers built into the fronts it really sets them apart from other 5.1 packages as well.

We don't seem to stock the Atmos versions of the Focal front speakers but in theory you would add the second set of Atmos ones to the rears to run them as Rear and Atmos then use the left over 2.0s as your side speakers.

For an AV receiver that would run 7.1.4 I would go with the Denon AVCX6800 which has 13 channel processing:

The Denons sound stunning and are packed with features as well.

Please don't hesitate to drop me a post if you'd like to go ahead with those.

    Kind regards

    David

    Thank you for your reply.

Ok so maybe 7.1.4 is too pricy for me. The AV receiver looks great but way beyond my budget lol.

What AV options could I go with if I stick to the 5.1.2 or decided to replace the two rear speakers with two of the Atmos ones for a 5.1.4 setup ?

    Thanks in advance

    Hi ya,

Thanks for your response and advice.

Upon further research I want to use this also for two channel listening. So after doing some research apparently Marantz and Onkyo excel with two channel stereo listening.

For my 5.1.4 setup I'm looking at the Marantz Cinema 50 or the equivalent Onkyo RZ730. I did however notice on your website that the RZ750 and RZ750 it states there are significant deals to be had then bought with speakers.

Can you price all three of the above for me with those Focal Sib Evo 5.1.2 speakers and if you have any real world advice or observations about the receivers and comparisons I'd be interested to hear.

    Thank you in advance

    Hey GeneticDeviant.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.

The Cinema 50 is outstanding and very popular.
There is currently a Marantz trade in promo running on the Cinema 50 which I can honor without taking a trade in unit from you. It knocks £120 off it. Making it just £1179 / €1379
The Sib Evo 5.1.2 is now reduced to £699 / €804

For the Cinema 50 with the Sib Evo 5.1.2 it would be £1878 / €2183 delivered.

For the Onkyo RZ730, this isn't one that we stock unfortunately.
We have the RZ50 which is the same price point as the Cinema 50.

I can offer the same deal on this with the Sib Evo 5.1.2 at £1878 / €2183 delivered.

I have not heard the Onkyo's in action but we have demoed the Marantz many times for customers here at the store and it is a beautiful sounding AV amp.

    That's brilliant thank you

    One last question,

I see the Sony Quad Theatre system is a very tidy setup and paired with a sub sw5 comes in at a little more than the above setups. I know this would be the wife's preferred setup :)

How close does the Sony Quad system get in terms of performance?

    Thanks again

    Hey GeneticDeviant.

The Sony Quad is a decent enough setup but ideally you need a Sony TV to use as the centre channel.
It is always going to be hard to get a better sound over a separate setup.

If you are thinking of another way, I would really consider the Sonos Beam setup or even the larger ARC setup.
In my living room I use a Beam paired with two older play ones and a sub mini and it sound great. The only wires are mains plugs.
