Orientation of expansion vessel

    The boiler is Grant Vortex condensing oil boiler. System is sealed pressurised - two zone, radiators hot water cylinder.

    See the copy of part of Figure 7.1 of the installation instructions. It's already installed and working.

    It seems to show the expansion vessel (1) with its connection to the plumbing at its top.

    Is this really the correct orientation? Would any water that happens to get inside it not then be able to get out?

    Those vessels depend on the air-pressure to operate and not gravity, so they can operate in almost any position. There are some cases where the manufacturer recommends that they be installed in particular orientations though. Generally the connection at the bottom is recommended as it keeps sediment out of the vessel and away from the rubber.

    Thank you 10-10-20. That's what I thought. I had space on the garage wall to turn it "correct" way up and to fasten it to the wall.
