Ignored by the Kildare Council

    Hi everyone,

I have tried to post this on r/askireland and            r/ireland but my posts get taken down with no explanation as to why.

I’m posting anonymously because I’m in a very vulnerable situation and need advice or awareness. I’ve been homeless in Kildare and have repeatedly tried to get emergency accommodation and support from Kildare County Council.

Despite countless visits, phone calls, and emails, I’ve been repeatedly turned away, dismissed, and left without a caseworker or any clear plan.

Some of the issues I’ve faced

•I’ve been told to “apologise to abusive family members and go home,” even though my home environment is unsafe.

•Council staff have suggested staying with friends as a woman’s hostel is ‘not ideal’ but this option is unavailable.

•On multiple occasions, I’ve been told I don’t have “permission” for emergency accommodation, even though Gardaí have confirmed that denying it in a genuine crisis is illegal and i was advised i was on multiple waitlists.

•I don’t use drugs or alcohol, yet my needs are completely disregarded.

•The lack of support forced me into an extremely vulnerable situation, including an unwanted abortion.

•I’ve slept in cars and outdoors, and my mental health has deteriorated significantly, requiring ambulance intervention on some occasions.

I’ve sent detailed complaints to the council, but nothing has changed. I’m sharing this to ask: what options exist for someone in Kildare in urgent need of safe housing and support when the council repeatedly fails to help?

Any advice, guidance, or support channels would be greatly appreciated. I hope sharing this also raises awareness that vulnerable people in Kildare can be completely disregarded even in emergencies

    Thank you.

What county were you last employed in? Why don't you return there?
