Replacement Lamp Ballasts

    Hi folks,

I'm a caretaker at a school, and it seems that the lamp ballasts are beginning to come to the end of their life. I got by for now by removing little used one with dead ones. We've had four die now and I reckon, it's just a matter of time until the rest follow. The issue I've got is that they have been discontinued, and I can not get identical replacements. I have found ones online that are similar spec, but differ in how many terminals they have, namely six from the orignal seven. (details below)

    Original Ballasts: "Tridonic PC 2x49 T5 Pro ip" Art. No 22 185 154 - https://www.lightbulbs2u.com/product/tridonic-atco-pc-2-49-t5-pro/

    Alternative I found :Helvar EL2x49ngn5-XL - https://helvarcomponents.com/product/el2x49ngn5-xl/

We are still in a temporary building, so I'm trying to save us a few quid and have them last as long as possible.

Also adding I've actually found two sellers online that claimed to have them in stock, but both times I've been let down. (one refunded me, the other sent the wrong one)

My question is, is there a way of making the six terminal one work? or workable alternatives, or is it goosed?

I'd appreciate any insight or advice you can give me,

    Thanks!

Hi, I know this isn't the answer you were looking for, but did you know that LED based batten lamps can be got for little money (~15 EUR) these days, and even Philips branded 60x60 cm panel units are only ~24ex VAT from some suppliers. Might be an option for some failed units depending on the light output.

I might not have seen the forest the trees here. I didn't know how cheap and handy they were. I'll have a little look around.

    Thanks!

Have a look at wholesalers' sites as cheap ones from outside the EU might not be a suitable quality for your needs.

Here's an example (I do not work for Eurosales, their site is just handy):

    Just thought I'd update.

I've brought it up to the powers that's be and it looks like we will be taking the root of LED Battens.

    Thanks again!
