Pre-employment Checks CO Role?

    want others input on this!

I came first in a panel for a job I am so excited for, and I am currently still in the pre-employment stage for it getting my documents and references checked. My current jobs notice period is one month, and when sending over the documentation for the CO role, they asked what my notice period is and a tentative start date.

The start date I gave them was the start of November, so there'd be a month and some change to account for the fact that the clearance needs to happen first. The thing is, I'm still in the clearance phase and they've yet to contact me to confirm my start date and contract of employment, so I need to decide now if I hand in my resignation to my current job if they happen to want me to start on the given start date, or wait to see what they say.

I'm worried about having the rug pulled from under me and them rescinding the offer, if I fail the pre-employment checks, or they want me to start much later than I think and I'm out of a job. I also am worried about having to adjust the start date for the new job to account for my notice period, but they are aware that mine is a month long.

Also to add, I think I am now only waiting on them to look at one of my references still, as they got back to me asking for a reference from a specific job which I then provided, so good to know that my other documents are good!
