Unhappy With Preschool, Took Child Out Early?

Decided to take our child out of preschool early after 3 weeks. Child got sick twice in 3 weeks with bad headcold and cough.

Most days, when we collected our child just after 3 hours, our child was left in pants that were wet around the ankles. One day, child was sitting at a table about to have a meal when we collected them and pants were wet around the knees with no explanation from teacher how it happened. We always provided spare clothes in the school bag. Child's socks got wet most days from stepping into puddles and were changed most of the time. With no explanation given from teacher how they kept having the opportunity to get into puddles with no shoes on.

We felt like our child was getting sick because their clothes were not changed promptly after getting wet and also poor communication from teacher about their progress, it just felt the teacher did not like our child as they never had anything good to say about them.

Did other parents experience where they took their child out of preschool earlier than expected because they were not happy with their service?

Pre-schools -and indeed primary schools- are germ factories. Children will pick up every sort of bug. so you will need to get used to that, unfortunately. At least it wasn't head lice , this time. I'd prefer my child to be having fun splashing in puddles than for them to be stuck inside, puddles are magnets to the small children.

You say that communication was poor, but you did get feedback, even if it wasn't what you'd hope for. Did you engage with the preschool about the feedback?

Start preschool…pick up viruses….all part of life. Getting wet while playing is fun. Getting wet doesn't mean catching a cold. 3 weeks is a bit short a period to be expecting progress reports. Perhaps you're being a bit over protective?

As a poster said above, preschools are a hotbed of germs and it's to be expected that children will pick up infections when they go there, especially at the start. It's actually a great sign that the children were outside long enough to find puddles to jump in. Obviously you don't want your child to be uncomfortable but you do say their socks were changed when wet. I wouldn't be too worried about the bottom of their pants being damp. The staff may not have noticed his pants were wet around his knees the day you collected him early. Did you provide wellies for your child to wear? Or did the preschool suggest this at all? Most children love jumping in puddles and will find even the smallest one to jump in

What is far more important is whether your child happy going in to the preschool? Did they look happy when you collected them? Were they engaging with other children?

As regards progress reports, did the preschool staff just hand the child over to you without a word or did they say your child had a good/bad day? Unless something noteable happened or there was a specific issue you were concerned about there would be no need for a detailed report.

Did you discuss your concerns with the manager? When you say the teacher has nothing good to say, do you mean they said something negative about your child or just didn't say anything?

If your child doesn't pick up the bugs now, they'll pick them up when they start primary school. Actually, they'll pick them up anyway.

Also primary school won't be interested in changing their socks and trousers if they are a bit damp/wet.

What progress did you expect in 3 weeks? All I'd want to know at that stage is if they are settling in ok and were upset any day. Other than that I wouldn't expect many updates.

Is this your first child? You need to let him go and explore. You need to let him mix with other children and pick up the childhood bugs that every child gets. Unless he has underlying health issues then picking up coughs and colds isn't going to do him any harm and will eventually strengthen his immune system. For the winter months you could probably build him up with a multivitamin if you think it would help.
