WiFi Calling on Vodafone FTTH - cannot hear caller > 50% of time

Hi all,

I have Vodafone FTTH and as we are rural want to use WiFi calling due to our crap signal.

We have the Vodafone Gigabox but I basically pass through the connection to my own router (TP-Link AX3000) which looks after all the networking.
We have some other access points in the house also.

So that issue is that sometime (> 50% of the time I'd say) if someone calls me or call out, I cannot hear the other person, but they can hear me.

I've spoken to Vodafone about it and they advised to reset my data connection on the phone and that it would get the latest settings.

It made no difference, and this also happens on my wifes phone and my kids. They are all different brands (Google Pixel, Poco, Redmi) and all have the same issue.

I though it was an issue depending on what access point I'm connected to but it seems not.

Anybody got any ideas as to what it might be?

Is the Vodafone gigabox bridged? I'm assuming not, and you're only keeping it to maintain the landline connection?

Double NAT is notorious for one-sided audio when it comes to VoIP (which is what WiFi Calling is) so I would be suspecting that's what's going on here.

If you don't have landline from Vodafone, then you don't need the Gigabox at all - plug your own router directly into the white ONT box, set the WAN port to VLAN 10, PPPoE (Username: vodafone@vodafone.ie, password: vodafone) and off you go.

I can't see a setting for the WAN Port (I don't see any settings for WAN port at all).

I can see PPPoE settings however:

Do I need that WAN Port setting?

You're in the right place, pop the username and password in there. If you can expand the Internet section, there should be an IPTV section where you can enter the VLAN ID. It's not to do with IPTV specifically but some router vendors put it in there.

There is an "IPTV/VLAN" section and it's not enabled - if I do enable it I see this:

It has been a while but I think if you change the mode from Bridge to Custom, you can enter it there under Internet VLAN or something like that.

That's the one, set the VLAN ID to 10. If you have the PPPoE username and password set (vodafone@vodafone.ie and broadband), you should get connected.

It all works - hopefully that will sort the WiFi calls also.
I had though I needed a much fancier Router to get rid of the gigabox.

I'm still getting some issues (not as much) where I can't hear the caller - I'm direct on my own router, but there are still access points in the mix - could they be affecting things?

Edit - 2 of the access points are older AirPorts - they are in bridge mode:

• Off (Bridge Mode)
• DHCP and NAT
• DHCP Only
