Hi have this idea of myself, my wife and our adult kids and their husband/wife to head away for a week together in early June.

Would like some sun ( but not too hot) with a mixture of not too mental for the 2 auld ones( nearly 60) and activities relatively near for the youngwans.

Was thinking of a house /villa.

    Any ideas please.

To be honest I'd ask them, rather than us. That's a lot of different personality types and interests to cater for.

What are you interested in ? Laying on a beach or going somewhere where there is plenty of things to do and explore museums castle's and so on.

It could be pretty hot in June in alot of sun destinations now in Europe. I'm away at the moment. September has become the new June as people are afraid to get caught in those mad heat waves they have been getting on continental Europe the last few years. I never seen dublin airport as busy as I did this week. It will prob b d same around April I'd imagine.

    I asked ChatGPT for you ! 😝

"Sounds like a lovely plan! A week away with a mix of relaxing + activity‐friendly sounds perfect. To help narrow things down & give good suggestions, a few questions first, then some ideas. If you like any of the ideas I can pull up villas and pricing etc.

    ---

    ### A few clarifying questions

To give suggestions that hit the mark:

    1. **Numbers & sleeping arrangements**

How many of you altogether? How many bedrooms or beds you’ll need, how many bathrooms?

    2. **Budget**

Rough ballpark per person or for the whole villa + flights + car hire etc.

    3. **Travel from where**

Are you flying from Dublin (or nearby)? How far are you willing to travel (e.g. max 4‑5 hrs flight)?

    4. **Heat tolerance**

When you say “not too hot” what temperature range works? High 20s °C, mid‑20s, or even cooler?

    5. **Activities you like**

What do the "youngwans" like? Hiking, water sports, beaches, cycling, culture/tourism, wildlife, boat trips etc. Also how far you’re happy to drive once you’re there.

    6. **Type of villa**

Private villa by itself, or villa in a resort / village setting where there are shared amenities (pool, restaurants, etc)?

    7. **Desire for seclusion vs being closer to towns/restaurants**

Some want peace and quiet, others want being nearer to restaurants, shops, things to do.

    ---

    ### Some destination ideas

Based on an aim for sun but *not extreme heat*, mix of chill + activity, villa style, let's look at early June in Europe / nearby. Here are some places that tend to work well that time of year, with pros/cons, plus a villa idea or two.

    | Destination | What’s good in early June | What to watch out / trade‑offs | Villa / lodging potentials |

    | --------------------------------------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |

    | **Italian Lakes (Como, Garda, Maggiore etc.)** | Pleasant temps (warm but not scorching), beautiful scenery, great for walking, relaxing, gardens, swimming in lakes, boat trips. ([The i-escape blog][1]) | It may still be a bit cool in mornings/evenings depending on altitude; some tourist traffic but less than high summer. | Lakeside villas, old converted farmhouses with views. Could also combine two villas or large house so everyone has space. |

    | **Costa Blanca (Spain)** | Good sunshine, beaches, not too far, lots of amenities, food, culture. ([Travel Supermarket][2]) | Could be warmer; some parts busy; depending how far into June heat builds up. | Villas close to the coast; many holiday rentals; good infrastructure. |

    | **Algarve (Portugal)** | Very popular family destination; warm but generally comfortable in early June; lots of beaches, water‑sports, golf etc. ([Clickstay][3]) | Might be more crowded; water might still be a bit cool early in June but doable. | Villas with own pool; can rent near beaches; shared amenities in some complexes. |

    | **Malta** | Nice weather, historic sites, compact so less travel inside country, beaches, snorkeling etc. ([Luxtripper][4]) | Sea might be a little cooler; midsummer crowds will still be small in early June but can begin. | Villas or apartments; some rural, some coastal; good mix. |

    | **Western Greece / Islands (e.g. Crete, Ionian Islands)** | Beautiful scenery, lovely food, beaches, culture, not too busy in early June. ([vrbo][5]) | Some islands are more remote; transport / ferries might need planning; heat can creep up later. | Good range of villas; some with pools; some near beaches. |

    | **Gran Canaria / Canary Islands** | Warm but moderated by Atlantic; lots of outdoors activity, hiking, beaches. ([Solmar Villas][6]) | Longer flight; some parts might be touristy; evenings could be cooler depending on altitude. | Villas or resorts; good amenities; variety. |

    | **Southern France (Provence, Côte d’Azur, Languedoc)** | Gorgeous countryside, wine, relaxed pace; beaches and villages; nice climate in June. | May have travel / traffic, some places more expensive; sea might not be super warm yet. | Villas in rural Provence; seaside rentals; old farmhouses. |

    ---

    ### Some specific villa‑ideas as examples

Here are a couple of villa options / examples to give a feel, so you can judge what level you like.

    * **THE JUNE Boutique Villa, Benissa (Spain, Costa Blanca)**

Heated salt‑water pool, sea views, multiple lounge areas, 700m from beach + supermarkets etc. Nice mix of privacy + convenience. ([vrbo][7])

    * **Villas in Paphos, Cyprus**

There are villas of various sizes, with private pools, good location for beaches + culture + nature. If you want warmer sea water and a bit more heat, Cyprus is an option. ([The Times][8])

    ---

If you like, I can pull together *a shortlist of 4‑5 villas* that match your ideal (once you tell me the answers to the questions above) with prices from Dublin, showing pros & cons. Want me to do that?

    #MEGA MAKE EUROPE GREAT AGAIN

I was going to say Greece and the islands- you could do Athens for a few nights and see the acropolis and then on to the islands- there’s some great value to be had renting full villas - so you’ll have that combo of city break and by the sea- there’s plenty of sights to see on most of the islands as well as great food, accommodation etc

Just looking at the above suggestions - some good ones there but- I wouldn’t go to Malta- outside of the old town, Valletta, Malta is a dump-but Gozo is nice enough- but there’s better beaches and sights elsewhere and Malta isn’t particularly cheap either and I never found the food particularly good.

San Sebastián is wonderful if you’re all foodies. But really OP, you need to provide more information

As a travel agent the first thing I do is send a questionnaire to the client to narrow down the field a bit. If there older people going they may need a hotel within very short walking distance to everything, some people like the hotel out of the town. I would agree with above posters saying June is very hot. I'm AMD Travel Northwest on FB if you want anymore advice ☺️

    Rome if you’ve never been

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,690 ✭✭✭✭Jim_Hodge

Agreed, I love Rome but I know at least one of my sons in law would be bored stiff. It's hard to find somewhere, or a type of holiday, that appeals to six adults. My daughter would prefer a sun holiday while my wife and I would avoid it like the plague.

    Greece. Has it all really.

Some of the group can do the sun holiday (beach etc) and at the same time other people can head off on a day trip around whatever island you're on, go out on a boat trip, go shopping, sit around drinking cocktails. And then you can all meet up for the evening.

A villa in Spain would be a brilliant choice for six adults. You get a lot more space than in a hotel, with several bedrooms, big communal areas and often a private pool or garden. It means you can spend proper time together, cook meals if you like, or just relax without worrying about noise or other guests. Many villas are close to beaches or towns, but still give you the privacy to do things at your own pace. It’s also handy having extras like outdoor seating, BBQs, and sometimes even games rooms or terraces with great views.
