    As above^^

    Don't delay.

Places like this that don't do their homework before hand and know what type of property their are sending men to so that said men are competent and able to do the job don't deserve to be given time to fix things.

The Response while not surprising is disappointing from so called professionals too happy to take your money.

I hope you get this sorted. An appalling job.

I'd echo those saying put it in writing to the company asap. If you need to go the chargeback route, (if memory serves me correctly, I only did it once, years ago), you need to provide evidence that you tried to get the issue rectified first, with the vendor.

Best of luck, hope it gets sorted out.

    Wow that's bad.

Hi all. Thanks for all the comments and advice.

I had emailed the photos to the fittings manager yesterday and he promised to investigate and get back to me ASAP.

I didn't hear back from him yesterday so rang first thing this morning. He told me he was waiting to speak to his manager and would ring me back after lunch.

He rang just after lunch and said that an engineer and the guy that originally measured for the door would be calling first thing in the morning.

I can only speculate that they've have looked at the photos and realised that either they measured wrong or they ordered the wrong door.

Fingers crossed that I won't have to do any arguing with them to get them to do a proper installation.

I will update tomorrow once they have inspected the work.

    well done op.

I was showing your photos to my wife last night after I’d finished a bit of plastering on a new project at home… and we just couldn’t get over the ‘repair’ work either side of the opening.

Ask the guys who call if it’s company policy to use a soup ladle instead of a trowel 😂. It’s impressively bad.

I’m sure you’ll laugh about it once it’s all resolved.

My god. The photos are fantastic btw, well done on taking them as evidence, posting and emailing on. To be fair you described it well, but nothing tells the story like a picture. I'd give them a day or two to get it sorted, and then kick off the chargeback.

Good thinking to do that too btw, credit card chargeback has saved my arse a couple of times as well when appeals to company didn't work (cancelled flights for example). It's the best safety net.

is the company based in glin limerick?

If it is had the same cr*p myself, also have a message from someone else on boards who is forming a group or something to deal with them also.

Whether it was measured wrong or you got the wrong door, the fact that those 2 lads left that job the way they did should be questioned by the management. It's a truly awful attempt at an install. Sad fact is that nothing will happen to them because all of these companies seem to be struggling for fitters and nobody wants to upset the staff they have.

Who'd have thought it,two door company's in Glin!!

So here's the update for today.

Nobody arrived this morning even though that's what was promised yesterday.

At 11:30 I rang the fittings manager to see why they hadn't arrived. He told me that the 2 people calling had 7 calls to make today and they were currently in Limerick city and were gonna call to me next. My house is a 15 minute drive from Limerick city.

2 o clock came and went and I rang back. I was told that they were still on the same job in Limerick. Bear in mind that this is an engineer and the guy that does the measurements. What job could possibly take 2 and a half hours.

I've got the felling that they are fobbing me off and even if they do call they won't offer anything that will be to.my satisfaction.

As soon as I was off the phone I rang the credit card company and started a chargeback on the 2 payments that I made.

I'm just worried that I'm still gonna be a decent sum out of pocket even if I end up getting all the money back once I paid for the repairs to the damage that they have caused.

Let the manager know that you have initiated the chargeback and then see how long it takes to resolve the job properly!

To be honest, from experience of dealing with them for the last few days I don't think it will make any difference.

The girl I spoke to at the credit card company asked me if I would like them to contact the company about the charge back and I told them to go right ahead so I'd say they'll know themselves fairly soon.

The company are out of pocket for the door and the wages for the muppets who attempted to install it. They'll surely try and recoup the cost the easy way (by finishing the job properly)

So its now just after 4pm. The original fitter just arrived 10 minutes ago with another fitter. No sign of an engineer. They are currently removing all the filler that the first guy put in on Monday.

They are now removing the door and moving it back to where the original door had met the tiles. They are also gonna fix the plaster and skim as well as fixing underneath the threshold.

Then they are gonna cement the gaps on the outside. They said that they can doo all this without damaging the door or doorframe

I'm not 100% confident that they will do it to my satisfaction but I don't think I really had a choice as I think if I sent them on their way, I'd never see them again.

I will post pictures once they have finished.

    Absolute cowboys.

As you said - the fittings manager or engineer/guy measuring are hardly out on jobs all day.

I wouldn't worry too much about the "extra" charges for repairing the damage. A proper installer would fix all of that as part of the new door install.

Fair play,it's the only thing they'll understand.

If you are not 110% happy with the repair job they do then make sure you go ahead with the chargeback

Now that the original fitter is back in your house, are you going to ask him if he thinks it was acceptable to leave it the way he did last time? And if not, why did he?

No point really as he clearly doesn't give a toss. The answer is possibly just going to rile the OP

We had similar with a kitchen company in Dublin about 10 years ago. It was practically “ the dog ate my homework” excuses by the end of it. No joke. We had paid by cheque which I’d never do again. In the end after posting on boards with a savage review I got some money back.
Subsequently they opened up under another name.

The original guy seems to be the student today. The other guy seems to be walking him through everything. And the other guy seems very competent.

I'm not sure it would be very helpful to antagonise the original guy. It would probably only raise my blood pressure even more.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 345 ✭✭Donutz

They didn't come with excuses today. They just explained what they were gonna do to fix everything.

A complete shambles - thankfully you’re protected with the credit card insurance - get on to them and advise them what has happened - but don’t let those numpties within an asses roar of your front door- you need professionals now

It would appear the original fitter was out his depth after seeing it was not a new build but went ahead not knowing exactly what he was doing. Possibly never worked on anything but new build fittings before or is an apprentice. Maybe it was just an office slip up sending out the wrong people to the wrong job but no matter what happens be 100% satisfied before cancelling the charge back.

I'd still be tearing them a new backside! Am I right in saying that this (below) did not happen?

"He rang just after lunch and said that an engineer and the guy that originally measured for the door would be calling first thing in the morning."He rang just after lunch and said that an engineer and the guy that originally measured for the door would be calling first thing in the morning."

100% unqualified fitter. No way this work is from a professional, probably a handyman doing a nixer while the real fitters are busy
