    Not sure why cracking deal?

The main attraction is the OLED screen which is far better than the screen on the typical €300-400 laptop. Great colours and deep blacks. It's the first time i've seen a laptop in this price range with one.

isn't the i3 processor on the lower end? maybe thats why its so cheap?

Slightly dated, lower-end CPU, but it’s energy-efficient. 8GB DDR4 is really the bare minimum these days. The screen is supposed to be good, but I wouldn’t call this a standout deal.

These specs would make more sense on a 14-inch laptop, as a more portable option.

Not really a deal, the processor is 2 years old, RAM is minimum of what you need now a days. OLED is the highlight but for the overall price it's "OK"

For me it's not an amazing deal. It's decent price for budget spec and a good screen. Ok deal.

8GB ram is lite these days. Adequate for office stuff but maybe not for long. Though I can't find the specs on the screen. I think it's 400nits but not certain.

Asus make a billion variations of their laptops it's a bit of lottery finding out which specific spec it is. Can you upgrade the RAM.

If you wanted it for someone in the family who is replacing a ancient piece of junk it would be ok. Asus is a meh brand for me.

Been looking for a laptop for car diagnostics, watching movies and some office stuff.

I'm assuming this isn't a great price? Thought it was a good price when I first saw it with the OLED screen and i3 processor.

Well its ok. It's basically €100 off which is something maybe 20-25% off? These days sales are usually 5-10%. So it's good relative to that.

Be fine for what you want.

Another perspective is a used MacBook M1 Air around 500 is massively better in everyway unless you need Windows. Which you might with car software.

It's one of the more interesting bargains on this forum for a long time..

Sorry reading this now… similar to other comments looks like basic laptop within a standard price range.

The main thing that makes it a deal is the OLED screen. Nowadays a lot of phones/tablets have OLED screens but for laptops it's still a relatively premium feature typically found on higher priced machines; although it's gradually creeping into cheaper ones as we see here. It gives you great colors and deep blacks.

The rest of the specs are underwhelming, although okay-ish in the price range.

The main reason to get it would be if you consume a lot of videos or photos on a laptop, where you want as good a screen as possible. If you need performance then you're better to put your money in those areas. You can have both (performance and a great screen) but not at €360.

The other thing important to me is brightness. If you work in a bright location you need a bright screen.

For car diagnostics I would look at something like a covertible laptop (the screen flips over) with a touchscreen as it will have glass and be a bit more robust.

i3 processor…. may as well have a hamster in a wheel powering the processing. That processor is over 2 years old too, so don't think it's a cracking deal…

Not entirely sure what you're expecting for €350. An i3 with 6 cores and 4.5ghz is fine for office stuff.

As my old laptop was a 15" and old it was not up to the job scoured everywhere looking and all with i3 or i5.

I found this on Amazon and had to spend a bit more but has a SONIC MASTER audio and makes fantastic clear sound and well chuffed in it. Only issue is a 2 pin plug needing a converter

    broken link

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,727 ✭✭✭✭Flinty997

    I think it's this...

    ASUS Vivobook 17 X1704VA Laptop | 17.3 Inch FHD 16:9 IPS Display | Intel Core i7-1355U | EVO Edition | 16GB RAM | 512GB SSD | Intel Iris Xe | Win11 Home | QWERTZ | Cool Silver https://amzn.eu/d/bceNALj

But between boards half broken link and Amazon redirects. But it seems to be a 17" laptop of twice the price..

Yes higher price and specs and plenty of places wanting to shift i3 models.

    People ragging on i3.

Once the i3 got to 4 cores it has been a great bang for buck chip. Uses less power (good for battery life) and can do most things well enough

Ye I was looking into this and it seems everywhere seems to think i3 is pure dog s**t and i5 is the minimum to get.

Saw they have an i5 version of this laptop but not far off double the price

Not sure if it's really worth the extra for an i5 and an extra 8gb of ram.

Tempted to get this as the OLED screen I'm assuming would be brilliant watching movies/tv shows on.

Don’t mind all the so-called experts on this site who expect some state of the art laptop for half nothing. It is very good value for the price for a Windows laptop, especially with that screen. i3 chip is perfectly fine and will last a few years.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,727 ✭✭✭✭Flinty997

I think it has a better graphics chipset also.

The more you spend the better it gets that's just how it works. You can spend as much as 4000 on a high end laptop.

A 16GB stick of DDR4 3200 ram for this is approx 30 euro on Amazon, I think this laptop has only one RAM slot

If it has 2 slots then 8GB is 16euro

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,727 ✭✭✭✭Flinty997

Hard to know with all the different models.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,775 ✭✭✭Klingon Hamlet

I'm kinda shocked by some of the negative comments. An OLED screen can make a massive difference for any visuals. Coupled with a sufficient processor and level of RAM to run the basics. All for 350. I'm not sure how that's not a bargain :) but there ya go.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,252 ✭✭✭loopymum

I have a similar model from a ba last year. It's grand. Nice screen. Mine doesn't have USB c charging though but neither does this either I'd say.

I use it as work laptop and it runs multiple apps at once and office. No bother

The price jumped to €619, making it more expensive than i5 and 16gb ram model 😯
