Are these light fittings easy to install?

Shouldn’t be necessary. He will mount a bracket to the joist and the light fitting screws will go into that from either side. The cable might need to be extended a bit but a joiner will solve that.
Personally I would do it myself but I’m fairly handy. I am not an electrician, so do what’s right for you.

Are you just replacing an existing light fitting?

Shouldn't need access to the attic so as previous poster said. It's actually quite an easy job - and DIYers are allowed replace one light fitting with another - but if you're uncomfortable doing it you'll need to get someone I guess

    Thanks for the replies.

I'd be tempted to give it ago tbh.

it’s very straightforward , knock off the circuit breaker , r3move the old fitting and re-connect with the new one.

assuming you have a standard light rose fitting coming from the ceiling, this is a DIY job. A bit fidgety, but if you are any way handy at diy, its easy.

Take pictures of all wiring before you take it down so you know where wires went in the old fittings terminals, in case it's older wiring you might need to label each wire so you are sure which is which.

You might have a live wire and a switched live wire there so you just need to know which is which and how to handle that

The wiring with those can be fecky as you are likely to need to run the existing solid core wires into the tight base and wire it up to the screw-terminals from here. I often have to install an extension piece of flex cable onto the solid core and then push the connector up into the roof/attic and bring the flex then through the ceiling and connect that to the fitting. Before you have a go check that out.

Additionally you might also need to screw this fitting into a joist, so one needs to be alongside the wire hole. Otherwise you can put a wooden lath above the ceiling plasterboard, and then screw into that.

So yeah, not always straight-forward, but sure give it a go.

I installed a similar one recently.

Thought it'd be relatively straight forward but the connector in the new light was a bit smaller than the old one, and there were 3 neutrals. Had to take the connector from the old light to use in the new one to get them 3 wires to fit again.

Was doable but a bit awkward. I'd say try it and you should be fine, make sure to turn off the circuit and switch. Still got some sparks when I did this but didn't get electrocuted at least!

Exactly what I was saying. They look easy from the sitting-room chair. 🤣

    Got it sorted,

    We did it ourselves.

    Needed two of us.

    Thanks for the replies.
