Starting a thread for the AP Tax Specialist Revenue recruitment 2025 as I can only see 2022 and older threads. Has anyone else applied for this? I am through to the in person interview and wondered has anyone any insight as to what it entails? I thought there would be aptitude tests before the interviews but seems as though this stage has been skipped. Thanks

I also got an email confirming interview - anyone have any idea when interviews will be and how much notice we will have?

Wondering the same. Im not based in Dublin so hopefully have a bit of notice.

Applied for a HEO position and everything was online so was shocked when it was in person interview.

Also received an email to say I’m through to the interview stage. Last time I applied was a few years ago and had to do an aptitude and video answers before an online interview so wondering is going straight back to interview indicative of a smaller pool to choose from?

@smeefi wondering the same. And i haven't heard of anyone not getting through to the interview yet so maybe they have allowed everyone through to the interview.

Great to have a thread set up here for this competition!!

From your previous experience of applying for Revenue competitions how did you find the process and how did you find the interview? Could you explain what happens and what is normally asked in the interview?

First tine applying and I don't know what to expect or what it entails!

    Thanks

Heard back of someone else who didn't get through, so that's good to know that they aren't just letting everyone who applied through to interview.

Previously i applied for a HEO tax specialist role. There was an aptitude test and then and online interview based on your application form but the application form was completely different to this one. So no idea really what the interview will be like. I didn't pass on one competency which was technical knowledge (I stumbled in the interview so i knew i had messed it up). That was my first time applying.

Strange to be doing in person interviews when the HEO ones were online ones.

I received my interview date and time today. Fingers crossed 🤞

Anyone else still waiting on an interview date? Was hoping they'd have sent it out by now since some interviews seem to be on in 2 weeks.

They have called people for Interview. I wonder are they doing it by location. Which locations did you pick @Lottie125 and @applicationqueries

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19 applicationqueries

I have Dublin. My guess is that it is alphabetical. Just based off a friend I know who has an interview date.

I am Galway and my surname is at the end of the alphabet so not sure how they picked the interview dates. Looks like most people who applied have been given an interview. So far only know of one who didn't get through.

Possibly by location then as my friend also had Galway down.

I’m middle of the alphabet and got my interview date v quickly in Dublin so imagine its location!

    Best of luck to everyone!

Hi all I've also received an interview date. Have mine on Weds 9th. Has anyone had their interview yet? The application for this competition was so different to any I've seen before so its hard to tell how the interview will go or even how to plan for it. Would love to get some feedback on the interview if anyone is willing to share.

I had mine today. There’s a big emphasis on leadership skills. I didn’t prepare many examples so reckon I failed that competency.

Had my interview today. Im not really too sure how I feel about it. I found it very intense and felt the panel really grilled me particularly around my taxes experience (I'm an external candidate). Not very hopeful that I'll pass the interview. I think the interviews are going on for another wk so im just going to put it out of my head for the next month or so.

Had my interview yesterday. Would echo the above.

For me, they focused on my application and also gave me various scenarios and asked me how I would deal with them

Found it very intense. In my right mind, I know I'd give a decent response to most of the questions I was asked, but the intensity of the interview completely threw me off.

In fairness to the interviewers, they were very pleasant, but the questions were very specific. It's difficult to think on your feet

@AtticusFinch86 sounds like you had a similar experience. Just very intense and not enough time to really answer the question before we moved onto the next. Anyone any idea when the interviews are over and results might be out?

@Avdel in the same boat, as regards awaiting a response from the interview.

Interviews finished this Monday, usually takes two weeks then after that, Friday week perhaps for the results !

@Densey12 good to know. Thanks for the info. Still getting over the interview 🤣🤣

Just curious, if the people here who were called for interview all have tax backgrounds or whether anyone from non-tax disciplines - Thanks in advance.

I have just over 20 years tax experience. Most of which was with Revenue. Between secondment and mobility I've been out of Revenue for nearly 6 years. Don't think my previous experience stood to me at the interview tbh.

I work in a tax role for one of the big firms.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51 ✭✭Lottie125

I don't think i had enough tax techincal knowledge to pass that competency. I work in a firm where we do everything so prepare financial statements to completing all types of tax returns. They kept asking me about the most complex tax issue but i didn't have too many examples to share. So i think that may be my downfall.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30 FordFiesta321

@Lottie125 Im sure you did better than expected. They indicated on the application form, that barristers etc, could apply so, one would naturally assume they value individuals with skills in areas other than tax specialty.

It's somewhat comforting to see other people's experiences alright! Coming from external and practice it was a different kind of interview to any I've previously encountered. More like a firing squad :)

Anyone aware of number of AP vacancies that Revenue are hoping to fill from this competition? Thanks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 70 ✭✭Avdel

Sorry ignore last message. From what I have been told they have a large number of vacancies for AP. However there is an open AP competition that is still in place for another year. That competition was run by PAS so Revenue have the option to fill vacancies from that panel too. Not sure how many they will panel from this competition but I suspect the vacancies are all for Large Cases Division. They deal with Large Corporate Companies. Which brings me around to me interview again. I was asked by one of the panel which Taxhead I preferred to work with. I stupidly said Income Tax which I think wasnt what they wanted to hear considering Large Corporations would be under Corporation Tax. So I fell into that trap!!
