    Hi All,

As a Irish civil servant, I am moving to live in Northern Ireland yet will commute to Dublin for work.

Wits not likely to happen much, I may have sone work travel requiring a car (mileage rates).

If I have a NI registered (and insured) car, can I claim civil service milage with that vehicle?

    Any thoughts welcome on this.

circular 11/82 on T&S states you claim from your home or your normal place of work whichever is shorter

You will need to enter your car details onto the Expense System on NSSO and before you submit your claim you will need to confirm that you have the correct class of insurance.

There is no restrictions on having a NI reg car.

You may run into issues if you remote work - you best inform your local HR Unit

Thanks a million for this. Regarding remote working, I believe this is possible from the northern Ireland (island of Ireland) yet not from outside the island.

    Thanks again
