Gyrokes has outperformed his npxg in the last three years and by over 5 two years running so a fairly decent sample size now, he also has scored a lot of goals 4 years running in two different style leagues, Nunez has one great season but his previous ones hadn't shown much.

Nothing is guaranteed but you'd image he will score goals at least around his average chance gotten and if he can continue at 5+ (probably unlikely) he'd be a great signing even at break even he'd be considered a fine signing

I have a lot of time for Nunez. He is frustrating, completely, but his energy and effort is top notch. Hard to defend against as at times, he's not even sure what he's going to do. He is not suited to Slot's system but I'm confident he could be the perfect fit for another club. Atletico Madrid could be a great fit. Will more than likely go elsewhere, Saudi maybe. Despite all the misses that we all know he should have scored, his stats aren't that bad at all.

Just look at Antony after going to Betis, sometimes it just doesn't work for a player at one team.

Theres is a good player there with Nunez he just needs a new start.

He needs to get away. I'd agree with you in the main, but the signs in the last quarter of the season weren't great. Whether his confidence, the supposed not starting to prevent the appearance bonus trigger, or him sulking a bit, he was way off as the season finished. Body language was bad, wasn't making the same runs didn't look happy.

I have good time for the lad, but I think both for himself and the club, it's time to have a clean break.

I always thought Pep signing him was more about stopping a rival getting him

I know a few Prem clubs were after him (Spurs mainly) but looks like Angel Gomes is off to Marseille.

Got dogs abuse online for it.

Thought it was class to see player go to another country and pick up the language, but not to the haters I guess.

Brighton appear to be emulating Chelsea at this point. Think they have 42+ players now the many loanee's are returning.

Ferguson and Cashin both need to get the hell out ASAP. Even just be first out the door to secure good loans not be end up stuck as back-up depth options.

I love when players go to a new country and make the effort to learn the language. It's perhaps a wee bit different when the player's clearly already been learning the language long before they leave their current club 😅

Era, it's not a big deal, it's just a very tangible show of his head having been in Madrid for a while now. Which we probably all knew, but I'm not surprised there's a bit of a reaction at actually seeing it so demonstrably.

Brighton have been doing this for ages long before Chelsea,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 401 ✭✭FreshG

Brighton have always done this. They buy in multiple players every year from different obscure leagues, in the hope that one is a success. For every Caicedo, there is also a Moder, Karbownik, Mwepu, Kozlowski & Mooy signed in similar positions in a similar period.

Chelsea adapted this model when the Brighton recruitment team of Jerwell & Winstanley moved to Chelsea at the same time as Potter did.

I have to admit that is an exciting signing for Liverpool. I’ll have to get him into my Fantasy Football team to help me feel less sour about it 😅

This is about the 4th or 5th tweet over the last week saying the Wirtz deal is done.

These guys on twitter are attention seeking.

First time from the UK media side. Nobody reputable at the likes of the Athletic, BBC, Mail, Echo have said it's done until this morning.

Liverpool obviously brief them all in unison and continue to be good at keeping them from breaking news early

German side got the news out earlier this week. Interestingly the fee is consistent in today's reports - £100m guaranteed plus up to a maximum of £16m for addons including winning major trophies (hopefully we end up paying these!) which is very different to the stories others had tried to put out about it being up to €150m (which is the £126m that Liverpool said they wouldn't pay)

Regardless though - massive fee and massive signing. Something for the whole league to be excited by.

For sure. He's definitely one of the top players in the world, so will be looking forward to see how he fits in at Anfield.

Romano is a spoofer. He's been leading the charge with photoshopped pictures a few days ago ago.

I'm not sure has Wittering even signed a contract yet

But it's not like he is fluent in it either. He was clearly getting help. Spanish speaking players at previous club too.

Thought was nice touch for him to respect country he was in.

He was never going to win if that's what they want abuse him for. Football side fair enough.

I see Liverpool linked with €100m move for Barcola. Damned oil money ruining football.

Spurs trying to sign Mbuemo now. They can offer Champions League football, and a top coach in Thomas Frank too.

Man Utd can't offer either of those yet, but can probably offer the higher wages.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,792 ✭✭✭jacool

Yes, this shows how it can be done.

I'm immediately reminded of the "reporter" Gary Cotterill trying to get Ruben Amorim to break the Champions League protocols and speak in English last year. Chalk and cheese, as they undoubtedly say on the Iberian peninsula.

Trent came across well. I just hope he hasn't set a precedent for the changing room when the boys start chatting away in Spanish, expecting him to understand!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,299 ✭✭✭theoneeyedman

No way man..... Footballers should just be as thick as planks, never show any ambition to learn anything new or broaden their mind. Oh for the good old days when they spent their days after training g in the bookies or the pub, and ended up at 35 broken alcoholic degenerate gamblers /s.

Im as sad as anyone to see Trent leaving Liverpool specifically, and the EPL in general, but it's clever he's his head on and has given himself a great chance to make the deal a success. Not many can do what Bale did and make zero effort off the field but still be the hero when the big day rolls around.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,175 ✭✭✭✭8-10

Trent will be so so so good I that team. I don't get people who seem to want or expect him to fail

Yeah I don't want success at our expense if we're playing them, but I think this is going to be a massive transfer when we look back in a couple of years

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,485 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

    Im not so sure.

Yes he will be a massive success when Madrid are playing cannon fodder and have 70% possession, but when he's up against Barca, Atleti, Munich, Liverpool, City, PSG etc, he'll be judged on how he defends against the left sided attackers.

And we know in the past, he wasn't always good at that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,226 ✭✭✭✭klose

He will be probably get his customary booing from the Madrid fans after his first clanger game as he’s settling in but he will no doubt be a massive success over there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 417 ✭✭Appletart Upsetter

I think if you're a Liverpool fan (which I am), the reason you're really disappointed he's left is because you wanted him to be a part of challenging for the Champions League and beating Real Madrid.

If Liverpool were uncompetitive, then fair enough, you can't begrudge it. But Liverpool are competitive and appear to be getting stronger.

I have a feeling Real are in for a rocky period over the next few years. I think Alonso is a poor fit and there are too many big egos in the first team. Trent included.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 263 ✭✭Lauras Law

At least he's already accustomed to his own fans booing him!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 86 ✭✭Buck Melanoma

Manchester United boo players committed to the club. Trent got booed (by some)for the way he went about leaving Liverpool. United boo new players(Zirkzee). So not the gotcha you think.

I love the high-horsing from rival fans….as if they never, ever do such a thing as boo one of their own. Considering the majority of these rival fans have also spend the last 5 or so years cutting the back off Trent. They now feel so bad for him.
